[expletive] you Dodgers! They are gonna be a thorn in our side moving forward in FA

Yeah, this kind of sucks, but I also think the Dodgers are going to be a thorn in their own side. They may have a lot of money to spend, but they certainly aren't spending it responsibly and it will catch up with them eventually.

This IS a smart move for them. They'll have Capuano and Harang off the books next year and Ryu can slide into a rotation spot then. Hell, with the uncertainty of Billingsley, Lilky, and Kershaw to a lesser extent, he may wind up starting for them this year. At any rate, there's no doubt in my mind they're still adding another SP as well, to slot in at 2 for them.

Is it still smart if he ends up in the bullpen?

Well, at least the Cubs tried hard, which gets them half credit or something.

Oh come on. Very few people even knew who this guy was a couple weeks ago. He's interesting, but it is hardly a mistake by the FO to not top this posting fee. People can't be getting really bitter about this.

And the next time it'll be some other excuse. But hey, 2 for 6! Reach for the stars! Everything's going to magically align into some kind of wave of man beef in 2015.

You're actually getting pretty ridiculous with this. It's hard to tell some of these posts from Kyle.

Obviously not. But it seems like they're going to buy themselves into and out of mistakes as it is.

i'm interested to hear n&g explain what he has learned about jin that has him so upset over not giving him a lot of money

I just hope that we can start spending like the Dodgers, who have nabbed....2 for 6.

I hope the Cubs have scouted him well and realized that he wasn't worth the $25.7 posting + signing fee. I'm surprised they didn't go after him harder than they did, considering all of the extra payroll money they should have.

There's a difference between overspending to land big talent and spending just to spend. This move reeks of the latter.

Jin is young, but he's apparently got a bad body and middling stuff. One of the questions raised is whether or not he can even stick in the middle of a MLB rotation. I'd have been fine with posting 10-15MM for him, but 27.5 is more than most teams bid for Darvish, who was the same age, but more athletic and has huge stuff.

I said earlier that I would have had no problem losing out on him to a $20MM bid, so I am obviously not broken up over this development.

You are aware that there are 29 other teams right? Landing 1/3 of the targets when you're one of thirty teams is hardly something to be upset over. If Puig doesn't take less money to go to the Dodgers that's half of the targets which is pretty ridiculous.

Being a cubs fan isn't hard enough so now the Internet has to get our hopes up several times a year with false reports.

I know next to nothing about this dude but with the new CBA limiting the value of extra resources, a team like the Cubs should be going balls to the wall to get young talent that isn't affected by the new CBA. Sounds like the Cubs did go hard after him but once again it wasn't enough.

Again he may not be worth it at all, I don't know. But if he had any decent shot of becoming a an above average starter I think it's worth overpaying in this new CBA world. The Dodgers payroll is probably double ours and they didn't have a problem with buying more talent (of course their resources seem to be double ours as well)

29 other teams aren't realistically looking to sign these guys, so that's a false point right there.

It's just disappointing. They're relatively handcuffed by the new CBA agreement, so I was hoping that international signings were going to be an area where they were going to go nuts and make sure things get done because it's an area where you can ideally kill two birds with one stone and infuse the organization with young talent and get better quicker. No, I wasn't expecting them to get everyone, but I was expecting them to get at least one more of the highly touted guys besides Soler. And if it's also coming down to players simply choosing to not come to the Cubs (Cespedes, Puig), well, I'm not sure how that's really supposed to make anyone feel better.

This guy's scouting reports read a lot like Concepcion. It's one thing to get upset over losing out on guys like Cespedes or Darvish, who scouts almost universally regarded as premium talents. It's quite another to be disappointed that the Cubs won't be spending $50+ million on a 24 year old projected to be a #3 or 4 starter. If the Cubs can't find 1-2 prospects in each draft that compare favorably to Jin, we're in a lot of trouble.

that's a lot of cabbage. Can't say I am too disappointed. I'll wait to give my FO grade for the offseason on opening day.
