Thought this was worth discussing and didn't think the best place would be the Carolina League prospect list thread.

Heard several teams have already contacted the D'Backs about Bauer including the Cubs and Royals... A deal involving Alex Gordon (who would certainly be moved back to 3B) was briefly discussed earlier... Cubs would likely need to give up Garza to get Bauer (plus, plus)... Could be interesting...

Cubs have not spoken in detail to D'Backs about anyone yet... Touched base on Bauer, Corbin and Young...

There is little that I would not give up for Trevor Bauer. I'm sure that a lot of teams with more to give up feel the same way. Possibly more so than David Price due to cost and length of team control. it feels like a pipe dream, but this is the type of aquisition that Theo and Co. seem to be aiming for, and I'd love to see him pull off something like this. I won't even try to come up with a mock trade, because if we do have what it takes, it would likely be the type of package that I wouldn't have even thought of.

There is no way Trevor Bauer is going to bring back the type of package David Price would.

Should have been more specific. What I meant is that there would be more teams in the mix for him because of cost and duration of team control.

I put this in a different forum, but it belongs here. Other pitchibg we've inquired on already includes Jason Vargas, Hichevar, Ubaldo, Wade Davis, Casey Kelky, Anthony Bass, Derek Holland, Chacin, and Brett Anderson. He also said he was told Carlos Villanueva is expected to be a Cub. Again, all from ABTY.

Yes, sour on Bauer, Arizona. Did you not do your homework on him before the draft?

The good thing about this type of journalism is that all you need is a lead and you can run with it. We can inquire about anyone we want, which sin't to say that the talks went anywhere.

I could see Theo taking a chance on any of the pithers you mentioned at the right price, but I could see him being very agressive in pursuit of Bauer or similar pitching prospects assuming that their team is willing to to listen.

That list has a couple of very interesting guys who will probably cost way more than we're willing to give up in terms of prospects/talent, a couple of generic 90-MPH fastball righthanders, and a Stewart-sized mistake in the making in Jiminez.

I'd still be a bit surprised if we could match up with the Diamondbacks.

I'd also be surprised if they did a Gordon for Bauer type deal. Davidson seems close to ready and despite questions on his ability at the hot corner, probably gets a look there if he gets called up, and Gordon hasn't played 3rd in a long time. They need a shortstop bad.

Of that list, I'd be most intrigued with Derek Holland and Brett Anderson, with Casey Kelly, Jhoulys Chacin, and Wade Davis a tier behind. Have my doubts that the Rangers or A's would move Holland or Anderson unless it's a really quality package.

ABTY made mention that Beane looks at Barney as a SS. Even if it weren't for Anderson, Oakland has plenty of very interesting pitching.

I'd put Kelly in that first tier. Well, I'd put Anderson in a tier by himself then Holland and Kelly next.

Take out Carlos Villanueva's September and he had a really nice season. I'm guessing the workload caught up to him eventually, but wouldn't mind seeing him in the NL Central giving us 165 innings next year.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Padres would trade Casey Kelly. Saw his name in another thread.

When you can pull guys like Eric Stults, Jason Marquis, and Jon Garland off the street at minimal cost and have them look like respectable mid rotation starters, why not shop your pitching prospects?

Don't remember who mentioned it over at psd but there is some "base touching" going on via the Royals and Garza.

It's ABTY. He has some good contacts within the Royals organization. It'll be interesting to see what happens this offseason/next year.
