I don't believe it....it really happened.

Indeed. Between this and Jay Cutler not actually dying on the field tonight, I feel I can sleep well now. \:D/

SO:

Cubs blow a 3-1 lead: it's the end of the world! Oh my GOD! Let's do documentaries for a 10 years about it!!

Cards blow a 3-1 lead: oh yeah well, whatever.

Are you trying to understand why its not a big deal when the team that won the World Series last year blows a 3-1 lead, and it is when a team that hasn't gone to a world series in 58 years and hasn't won in 95 years (at the time) blows it?

I already understand. I'm just trying to figure out how so many can't understand.

The answer is: it doesn't matter what your situation. A 3-1 lead is not insurmountable.

Stop babbling.

I'm probably pulling for Detroit since they haven't won it in a while but I really just hope that we get 7 one run games and that it's a fun World Series.

I was thinking there was a rule about this when I saw the play last night...

Rule 6.05 should be in play here, right? I'm a Giants fan and am grateful for the way this played out, but I'm pretty sure he should have been ruled out and no runners allowed to advance.

"Rule 6.05: A batter is out when... (h) after hitting or bunting a fair ball, his bat hits the ball a second time in fair territory. The ball is dead and no runners may advance."

Of course there was absolutely no way for the umps to see that at full speed.

Gotta root for the Giants now.

Nah, I'm going to root for the Tigers. SF fans just got to celebrate a couple years ago, and most of them get to live in a great city.

Tigers fans have to live in Detroit, haven't been able to celebrate in a while and the Tigers are a rival of the pale hosers.

Tigers fans are fans of other Detroit teams, which means they suck.

True. I don't waste much thought on the NHL or NBA, and the Lions have almost been a non-entity, but you make a good point.

yeah, Tigers/Pistons/Red Wings fans haven't had much at all to celebrate in the last 10 years

gods be good that will continue

I'm pretty sure he's joking considering the Tigers have now been to 2 WS, the Pistons won an NBA title and the Red Wings have won 2 Stanley Cups.

They mentioned it during the game. Can't remeber who it was but they said the rule didn't apply to a broken bat. Makes sense, absolutely no way the hitter can control where a broken bat piece goes.

It was McCarver and I took it with a large grain of salt because of that. My biggest issue in the citing of that rule is that you don't really know if the ball was in fair territory or not. It may have still been in the batter's box when the bat hit it again.

Balls are pretty much always hit in fair territory. I don't see any way in which this one wouldn't have been.

My predictions

Orioles 7 Rangers 5

Cardinals 9 Braves 2

Yankees over Orioles in 4 (LWWW)

Tigers over A's in 5 (LLWWW)

Cardinals over Nationals in 4 (WWLW)

Giants over Reds in 5 (WWLLW)

Yankees over Tigers in 6 (WLWLWW)

Cardinals over Giants in 5 (WLWWW)

Cardinals over Yankees in 7 (WWLLLWW)

Maybe I am just being a masochist, who knows, but I've seen this story before. Twice in fact in the last 7 years.

Wow, just looking back on this. I nailed the WC games and the first round, but went 0/2 in the LCS.

I missed the NL Wild Card game and the Washington series, so 6 of 8. Picked SF to win the series.
