Ending midweek is just bizarre. It feels like the Cubs are just starting another homestand, but after 2 night games and a day game, its over.

The story has been going through the Chicago media today that tickets for this game are going for 9 cents on StubHub. I wonder why they are making a big deal out of it considering:

1) It's common on Stubhub to see people pretty much give away tickets to games for out of contention teams at the end of the year. I've seen it primarily with baseball and basketball teams, but by no means is this unique to the Cubs.

2) The tickets won't really cost you 9 cents. There are approximately $15 in stubhub fees for that 9 cent ticket, meaning you are really paying $15.09, which is way more than I care to pay for a Cubs game at this point, and more expensive than I could pay from a scalper outside the park.

3) Not sure if the story was meant to be a knock at the Cubs because they are so bad that fans dont care anymore, but at least a lot of our tickets were bought up already rather than averaging ~28K tickets sold for a critical homestand with the playoffs on the line like the Sox did last week.

You could have purchased lower level seats for about 25 dollars for the Sox vs Rays series. I think it's safe to say that, that would not be the case if the Cubs were in the same situation.

Congratulations to Jed Hoyer for putting together the worst Cubs team of most of our lifetimes.

You can't be serious. Surely the part about it being one of the worst Cubs teams can't be argued, but to blame Jed Hoyer for that is nonsense.

Who am I supposed to blame? Virtually all of the bad players were put on the roster by him. I mean, I could have blamed Theo Epstein, but I feel bad that Jed never gets any recognition for being the GM.

You are looking at one season at face value without any regard for the long term plan. If the goal was to put a team on the field that could possibly reach .500, then Epstein and Hoyer failed. If the goal was to start building a championship team, then it is way too early to make any judgements. I don't think anyone is happy with how this season turned out, but to assign blame to the new administration at this point is just silly.

Nothing Kyle said is untrue. No matter if it's part of the long-term plan, this Cubs team was/is an absolute train wreck.

I didn't say any of that. I simply said that Jed Hoyer put together the 2012 Cubs and that they are the worst Cubs team in most of our lifetimes.

You are reading a lot of other arguments into my post. Sure, they are arguments I'd be inclined to make, but they aren't arguments I was making in that post.

No one will argue that the 2012 Cubs were terrible, but it is short-sighted to judge one season of a new administration without looking at the bigger picture. Epstein and Hoyer assembled the 2012 roster, but they did so based on a system left to them in disarray. You really can't separate one from the other at this point. To make a statement implying that Epstein and/or Hoyer are primarily responsible for this season is ignoring the larger picture.

Okay, so when I post "I am judging Epstein and Hoyer's regime on the 2012 W-L record," your responses will make sense. Would you like me to edit my post to reflect what you thought you were replying to? I could be a nice guy like that.

That is not what you said, but you blamed Hoyer for assembling the 2012 roster. That is partially true, but it is also true that the roster was assembled based on what was left to him, so it is unfair to look at the 2012 season in a vacuum and assign the blame to Hoyer/Epstein for "the worst Cubs team in most of our lifetimes".

Looking at what was left to him makes it worse for him, not better.

He inherited Dempster, Garza, Castro, Barney, Samardzija, Soriano, pretty much all the best players on the team.

His best additions were Wood, DeJesus and half a season of Rizzo, none of which I believe eclipsed 2.0 WAR this season. Meanwhile, he personally put together the sucking void that was our below-replacement third bases situation and our below-replacement bullpen. I can't blame him for CF, though, that one was legacy.

I will be hitting up this game in the bleachers, tix are cheap through the right channels. Even $20 through Cubs.com. Feel free to join my drunken ass in the LF bleachers, I'm about to catch myself a BP HR tomorrow. Last night game of the year, anyone, anyone???

I also have my 2 regular season tickets for FREE if anyone in the area wants them. Just PM me or respond here and you can come grab them. Or else I'm gonna sell them to a random huge Cubs fan for $100 each, this game is pretty in demand.

You don't get to choose to take a dive on a season without accepting the blame for the results of that dive. He can stick to whatever longterm plan he wants, but he takes blame for the crappy team he puts out there in the interim.
