Seriously. Not sure I can feel for the guy taking crap after he spends half his days being condescending to people.

No joke. If you want to use twitter to talk down to people, then don't be surprised if people throw that back in your face. Does he think Callis gets a bunch of "I Told You So" comments like that?

Wow, I think someone actually hurt KG's feelings.

Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein

Thanks all the people tweeting me about Vogelbach. Let me know when you write 200,000 words a year online to be judged.

Can't help but chuckle at that.

I've been giving him [expletive] about it on twitter for a couple days, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm surprised he got so butthurt, though.

I was definitely one of those guys tonight. Whatever....taking criticism is an inherent part of the job. Especially when you interact nonstop with fans on twitter anyways.

It's funny how he comes across as very sincere and nice on his podcast and then is just mostly a dick on twitter.

Another HR for Vogelbach, his OPS has to be pushing 1.150 now.

Wait, a third one?

Ack, missed the 2nd one mentioned before all the KG stuff.

I was gonna say, I'd be concerned KG was gonna quit Twitter at that rate.

i wasn't high on vogelbach, but at some point if the guy keeps hitting for average and posting an OPS over 1.000, people are going to have to take him seriously as a prospect rather than the chubby sideshow who can hit the ball far. the "it's the AZL, everyone hits there" doesn't fly in the NWL, which isn't a hitter's league, and the excuse of feasting on bad pitchers rings pretty hollow too.

let's put it this way, if most second round, seven-figure high school signings were posting a .330/.400/.675/1.075 line in their first professional season, i think there would normally be quite a bit more buzz than there has been for vogelbach.

It's just his thing. He's surely. Kind of like the Boers & Bernstein of Twitter. They trash virtually every caller, yet people can't get enough of them.

Even if he hits .500 and OPSs 2.000, unless the NL is granted a DH, he's ultimately trade bait.

Which has exactly nothing to do with his buzz as a prospect.

The first HR from vogelbach didn't really go that far (maybe 360) but the second one was crushed. left the stadium, cleared the field slash hill and the fence beyond that. i was afraid he took out the windshield on my car, actually.

Scott was sitting at 90, had a 79/80 mph breaking ball and what i'm guessing was a change that seemed to be mostly 84/85 mph. he had command problems all night — a lot of pitches in the dirt.

Candelario looked good at third (at least he didn't boot anything, and he started an almost 5-4-3 double play). I only remember two of his at-bats, but he saw 4 pitches in them total and swung at all of them.

marco misplayed a chopper — he hung back to avoid moving in for a short hop, and instead the ball bounced right over his head. it was ruled a hit.

Amaya did a nice job lifting a decently deep fly ball to right to plate what would eventually be the winning run.

I'll say this for KG, his taste in video games is impeccable.

By all accounts, most scouts think pretty highly of Vogelbach. It's hard to find a scouting service that doesn't think Vogelbach will be an outstanding ML hitter. Mechanically, the only problems he had coming out of high school (weight shifting forward during load, head movement) have already been corrected. He has either done this on his own, or somebody has helped him with it. Looking at his swing, and the corrections he has made this early in his career, I would expect him to keep hitting. He just doesn't have any holes in his swing. He has one of the more efficient swings I've ever seen. He has the potential to move through the system quickly based purely on his ability to hit.

As many have mentioned, he doesn't really have a position. As incredible as Rizzo has been to this point, I would project Vogelbach to become a better major league hitter. It's a good problem to have, but if he keeps hitting, and I suspect he will, he should bring a really nice return in a trade to an AL team.

Would it really be that bad to shift Rizzo to a corner OF spot assuming Vogelbach is still hitting like a boss and can actually physically handle 1B?

Or trade him when he's got a couple arbitration years remaining. If Rizzo really peaks at the "quite good but not particularly great" level many have assigned him then 3-4 years from now, if/when Vogelbach is ready, it could make a lot of sense to trade Rizzo if you could conceivably get more for him.

That would depend on who is playing corner OF for the Cubs when Vogelbach's ready.

Rizzo is already a damn good defensive 1B. I kind of doubt Vogelbach is ever considered better than average and probably slightly below. Granted, it's not a defensive position of true importance, but for me, I'd rather have as good a guy as I can there. If Vogelbach was going to be much better than Rizzo with the bat, I would defer to him. But Rizzo's a hell of a lot closer to being an elite guy right now than Vogelbach is, so if we wind up with that sort of " great problem", I'd try Vogelbach in LF. Athletically, he's obviously better than what it looks like he should be. If his bat is this good, I'm sure we'd be fine with an Adam Dunn type disaster in LF, but I'm not even sure he'd be that bad. To me, that's a better solution than trading him. It seems like 1B have as low of a trade value as any position, so it's probably beneficial to keep him, if at all possible.

Maybe the dime a dozen guys, but Gonzalez, Teixeira and Cabrera are three guys who were traded at fairly young ages that brought a ton of interest on the market. It's not there's a dozen guys with a 900 OPS out there these days. Teams will still pay up for guys who actually produce a lot. Whether it's an established veteran or a hot young prospect on the verge a bit bat is a very valuable commodity.
