Rizzo, Jackson and Vitters. That is all.

How about the guy that's younger than all three of them?

Yeah, how do people keep forgetting about him? Plus Shark, Wood, Cabrera, Beliveau, Russell, Wellington Castillo, Clevenger... there are a ton of you guys worth watching right now.

It's going to be very hard to keep pulling off the "young guys did well but we still lost" gambit, but it needs to be done. I'm already annoyed that we're merely in the No. 3 pick position, but it could easily get worse with a good stretch here.

They're all worth watching, but if we're talking about the core foundation of this particular wave, it's Castro, Rizzo, Vitters, Jackson, and Samrdzjia.

I know we got a ton of young guys at the moment like you stated. It's pretty crazy that our entire infield is now 26 or younger. I was just throwing the couple names out there I am most excited to watch at the moment.

I don't see any way the Cubs pass the Astros or Rockies.

Probably will be near impossible to make up the 10 games to jump the Astros, but the 5 games in the loss column against the Rockies is possible to overcome, imo. Assuming Shark is going to be shut down soon due to reaching an innings limit (which does anyone know what it is btw?) and Garza's health up in the air it's possible we have a combination Coleman, Rusin, Raley, Germano, Volstad, Wells, and/or Lopez starting every 2-3 days the rest of the season very soon.

We still have 6 games against the Rockies and 9 against the Astros, fwiw. We'd probably have to lose like 7-8 of the games against the Astros that are left to have a chance of jumping them.

Wells is out for the season with elbow surgery.

RT @Cubs: #Cubs lineup @Padres 8/6: Jackson CF, Barney 2B, Rizzo 1B, Soriano LF, Castro SS, Castillo C, Vitters 3B, Mather RF, Wood P

It's kind of crazy that in a game in which they manage to get three of their hotter prospects into the lineup they still have Joe Freaking Mather in RF.

And it's too bad that we don't have much in terms of interesting OF prospects in the upper minors. Ha and Szczur are in AA but are still a ways away. It will basically be an un-interesting mix of LaHair, Mather, and DeJesus in right field for the rest of the year. Maybe they call up Sappelt at some point, but he isn't interesting.

I'm here in San Diego with my daughters, going to the game tonight and tomorrow. Our hotel is about 500 feet from Petco, with a great view of the Stadium!! I think the Cubs may be staying across the street. My nephew works for the Padres and we got to tour the stadium and go out on the field. We may be able to get on the field for batting practice, so will try to get some good pics.

Looking forward to seeing the young guys play!!

Went to San Diego with my dad in 2003 to see a 3-game series. Got to see Wood, Zambrano, and Prior (who was coming off the DL after the Giles collision) 3-game sweep, great times. Hope you have the same.

I didn't know that, but I think the point still remains. The rotation could get really bad, really quick here in the next few weeks.

Side note, I don't really like Castro hitting 5th

You definitely got to see them at the right time!! Too bad we don't have 3 young pitchers like that now. :(

I believe most teams stay at the Marriott on Harbor. Are you staying at the Omni?

I've only been to 7 ballparks (Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Qualcomm, Petco, Wrigley, old Comiskey, old Yankee Stadium) so I don't have some exhaustive list to compare with but Petco is definitely my favorite. Enjoy!

I saw Prior in his next outing in LA (CG with Sosa hitting 2 HRs). Probably my favorite Cubs game ever.

That was the only thing that sucked about my San Diego trip. Qualcomm Stadium was awful.

Definitely. I know Mission Valley is more central to all of San Diego County than Petco but you just can't beat a waterfront stadium if you're building a stadium in San Diego.

By the by, Dodger Stadium is a dump.
