I'm here in San Diego with my daughters, going to the game tonight and tomorrow. Our hotel is about 500 feet from Petco, with a great view of the Stadium!! I think the Cubs may be staying across the street. My nephew works for the Padres and we got to tour the stadium and go out on the field. We may be able to get on the field for batting practice, so will try to get some good pics.

Looking forward to seeing the young guys play!!

I believe most teams stay at the Marriott on Harbor. Are you staying at the Omni?

I've only been to 7 ballparks (Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium, Qualcomm, Petco, Wrigley, old Comiskey, old Yankee Stadium) so I don't have some exhaustive list to compare with but Petco is definitely my favorite. Enjoy!

I'm staying at the Hard Rock. The Omni is right across the street, and I thought that's where they may be.

Yeah, Petco is a really nice park. Was cool to go check out all the behind the scenes stuff. There is an area where the high dollar season ticket holders can eat, and the Padres batting cage is through the window right next to you.

That was the only thing that sucked about my San Diego trip. Qualcomm Stadium was awful.

Definitely. I know Mission Valley is more central to all of San Diego County than Petco but you just can't beat a waterfront stadium if you're building a stadium in San Diego.

By the by, Dodger Stadium is a dump.

I remember you saying Dodger Stadium was horrible. Have heard that from quite a few people. Almost went last year but our plans changed. Kind of glad I didn't go there.

The Marriott is a few blocks northwest of Petco (1st and Harbor), right on the oceanfront.

I once ran into Carlos Zambrano and Matt Clement in front of the Hard Rock.

I wouldn't mind visiting Dodger Stadium at least once. The old Yankee Stadium was kind of a dump too but I went there in 2008 and it was still neat to see the ballpark.

RT @Cubs: #Cubs lineup @Padres 8/6: Jackson CF, Barney 2B, Rizzo 1B, Soriano LF, Castro SS, Castillo C, Vitters 3B, Mather RF, Wood P

Replace Mather with someone like Austin Kearns or Conor Jackson, and this could be a very familiar lineup in 2013.

Damn, when I was in SD 2 weeks ago, that's where I stayed but unfortunately, the Padres weren't in town (ended up renting a car and driving to Anaheim for an Angels game). That hotel was really nice though.

well, i like that brett jackson is almost certainly going to have some deep at bats and make opposing pitchers pile up pitch counts. hopefully he can do enough in those deep at bats to be productive major league player.

Looks like Rizzo was mini-mobbed in the dugout before the game, saying how much he enjoyed playing in San Diego and how he's adjusted his swing. Then they showed video of Cashner long-tossing earlier this afternoon.

If Travis Wood continues to stink up the joint, like he's capable of, I don't think the #2 overall pick is out of range. Let's do this!
