So, this Valbuena guy. Is Vitters THAT much of a defensive liability or is there a clock issue with him? Or, is he just not a Theo guy? I haven't kept up with the chatter, but it seems like he is doing some ok things offensively. What gives?

Vitters still has work to do on both his offensive and defensive game. Rather than try to develop him in the majors, it makes sense to let him work on those things in AAA.

I think they want to give him a full year at AAA to see what he can do.

If Bronson Arroyo no hits a team, then I'm convinced something needs to be done. Of course I thought the same thing after Humber's perfect game. He has to be amongst the worst pitchers to ever toss one.

kind of funny that the pitcher with 12 K's in that game has allowed 5 hits, and the pitcher with 3 K's has a no hitter.

It appears that was more of a Vitters post than a Valbuena post. Mark it up to the time off. Gimme a break. For God's sake, I still have a Steve Stone quote as a sig!

Correct me if I'm wrong but Vitters has been quite a disappointment overall the last 2 years and is just now showing signs of adapting to AAA and hitting with authority. There's really no need to rush him up here until Theo and Co. feel there's nothing left for him to prove. And in my opinion, he still has quite a bit to prove.

Is it just me or does Rizzo have too much movement in his swing? Pretty long and loopy?

It's a power hitter's swing. Most LH power hitters not named Barry Bonds have/had swings that look like that. Plus, it seems to me to be more of a long follow through. He was pretty short to the ball last AB. Some people have made the comparison, but he looks a lot like Adam Laroche in his stance and swing. Swing doesn't appear as long as Laroche's though.

I figured he has been widely viewed as a disappointment since he was "the best pure hitter in the draft" or some mularky like that a few years ago. Didn't figure him to be a Theo guy, so I guess I thought maybe he and Jed would throw him to the wolves with little worry about consequences.

Really, the difference between this year and last year can mostly be chalked up to the leagues he's playing in. Both years he's been solid enough but not good enough to really be knocking down the door to be promoted. If he shows April was more of an adjustment period than a cold streak, he has a chance to be better this year than last though by the end of the year.

Egad. Every time I check Gamecast, batters have at least a 3 ball count against Wells.

randy wells really does not inspire confidence.

Inspiration is a dangerous thing.

Hold it. That's not quite right...

Not the first Holy Crap directed at me today...

What the hell are you doing here?

No TV here and Tim gave me a bump awhile back. I figured it was time to end the self-imposed exile.

Holy wow

Think of all the snide remarks I have saved up. Glad to see so many familiar names.

I have to think he's still injured in some way. If his stuff just ended up getting exposed that's one thing. But he had a 2.9 BB/9 rate in the minors and was better than that his first two years in the majors. Now he seems to have no command at all. Last year he was leaving balls in the middle of the plate, and this year he is just avoiding the plate entirely. But he wasn't good enough in the first place for the team to spend a lot of time investigating/trying to rehabilitate him.
