as a proud beaver, take that!

As a cubs fan....hum.

Sounds like Appel just didn't have command of his secondary pitches last night, his velo was still in the mid-high 90's according to a poster on PSD and also it sounded like the infield defense didn't make a few plays. I actually hope Appel doesn't have another great start (but obviously is healthy) and Gray finishes the year really strong and that swings the Astros to taking Gray.

I understand the Astros FO is smart enough to look at the body of work and not get influenced by a good/bad 2 week stretch if health isn't an issue.

Gray isn't having a very good start. Walked at least 2 guys, hit someone else, gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and just finished his 4th inning.

Gray couldn't keep the ball down today. Went 5, gave up 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 8 K's. Threw 109 pitches. So both struggled this weekend basically.

Barry Rozner is one of those people I just refuse to tolerate no matter what.

Bryant is 5-6 with 2 HR and a 2B right now. I think I give up on not at least putting him under serious consideration at 2. Maybe the bat IS good enough if he's a RF.

it feels like he hits 2 home runs every game

He only hit one yesterday. Of course he's beating up on Portland University, which surprisingly isn't the worst team in the weak WCC.

Kiley's scouting report on Appel and Gray:

1. Mark Appel, RHP, Stanford

Draft Day Age: 21.89, R/R, 6'5/215

The 6'5 righty flashes three pitches (fastball, slider, changeup) that all rate at least a 60 on the 20-80 scouting scale and will flash better on certain days. Appel lacks the top shelf athleticism to have the command and consistency to project as a true ace but he's clearly my top prospect and a frontline starter.

2. Jonathan Gray, RHP, Oklahoma

Draft Day Age: 21.59, R/R, 6'4/240

The husky 6'4 righty took a big step forward this season, most notable with his velocity, not throwing fastballs under 95 mph in 100 pitch outings and hitting 100 mph often with a plus slider and solid changeup. His arm action, delivery and command could are all a notch behind Appel and Gray's value is heavily tied to his velocity, which may wane with two fewer days rest in between starts in pro ball.

Amongst BA's top 100, here are the HS kids who they tabbed as *possible* tough signs, for whatever reason (obviously most of these guys are just trying to get leverage):

25. RHP Phil Bickford - Cal State Fullerton commit

32. LHP Matt Krook - Oregon commit

33. LHP Connor Jones - Virginia commit; wrote a letter asking teams to not pick him

35. RHP Kyle Serrano - Tennessee commit; son of Tennessee coach

40. OF Cord Sandberg - Mississippi St commit; scholarship for football

57. SS Riley Unroe - USC commit; asking for a 7-figure bonus

63. C Dom Nunez - UCLA commit

65. LHP Garrett Williams - Oklahoma St commit

66. 2B Cavan Biggio - Notre Dame commit; probably unsignable below pick 40

72. RHP Chandler Eden - Oregon St commit

85. LHP AJ Puk - Florida commit

96 RHP Tyler Danish - Florida commit

Bickford, Krook, Jones, Serrano and Unroe were in McDaniel's top 50 and he mentiones signability questions on Krook, Jones (obviously) and Unroe. Nothing on Bickford and Serrano and he didn't raise any other names with questionable signability.

Trade Dejesus for the comp pick, called Ryne up and say "hey buddy, we're going to patch things up and take your nephew"

"ok I appreciate that what a nice gest--*CLICK*"

The Cubs select Cavan Biggio.

I don't even care if Cavan is any good, I'm in.

Is that cah-van or cave-in?

I'm going to guess it's a bastardization of Gavin.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense.

in a video on youtube he explains that it sounds like Gavin and is a county in Ireland.

A guy I really like for the Cubs' second round pick:
@aaronfitt: In case you were wondering, #USFDons RHP Alex Balog missed this wknd with a nagging groin injury. Expected back for #WCC tourney. #mlbdraft
