They're likely doing something stupid like counting guys who were drafted but not signed (Sonny Gray and somebody else), but I've got it at 56.5 for the Cubs. Josh Donaldson, Josh Harrison and Darwin Barney were big ones.

I'm trying to think how we get to 60. There's Shark, then there's...who?

If we're starting in 04', Zambrano, Wood, Marmol (think he didn't suck yet), Soto, Randy Wells had like 1.5 good years, Cool Cat, Theriot probably had 1-2 okay years, Castro, can't think of any other significant home grown contributors.

Castro is the only one of those guys acquired after '04.

And, of course, he was not drafted.

I completely misunderstood the point of this exercise

Did I miss the part if we are talking about bWAR or fWAR? Could obviously change the results greatly...

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

my list is fWAR. And really depressing.

Are they talking about guys drafted between 2004 and 2014, or contributions from guys who were drafted that occurred between 2004 and 2014? Because that could change things significantly.

The Phillies certainly wouldn't be last if they were counting contributions from guys in that span. Utley alone has twice the WAR they gave the Phillies.

Good point. Their numbers must be off then, or they're counting Castro, or something like that.

Not sure what David was looking at, but this article on the subject is looking at rWAR for players drafted 2005 - 2014. League average appears to be more like 65 vs the 100 that was mentioned...which seems more realistic to me.

The other guy in that scenario would be Tim Lincecum

Maybe they did something really stupid and included Fukudome?

It is worth noting that this includes J.D. Drew, whom the Phillies drafted and did not sign;

That's particularly strange since Drew was drafted in the 90s
