The problem with Juan Pierre was that the Cubs traded three pitching prospects for him, all of whom made the Big Leagues, and one of whom, Ricky Nolasco, ended up having a pretty decent career. Trading all that for one year of Juan Pierre was the height of stupidity. Pierre came in and did exactly what Juan Pierre does for his one year and then walked in free agency.

It was the 2nd most emblematic transaction in the Hendry era.

Please explain, because that's not the kind of move Hendry made a lot.

Hendry chased a lot of "it worked for them, we should do that" situations.

I think the most telling "sequence of transactions" were all the things that led them to being essentially forced to sign Soriano. Despite being in charge of the farm going back over a decade and having several years to find productive hitters, Hendry could not do that efficiently by any means and pretty much had to blow the wad on Soriano because the OF was otherwise pathetic. They trotted out a bunch of 1 WAR humps and failed repeatedly with kids and basically left themselves no other options but to overpay when Soriano came along.

That's true; I thought he was talking about the trade itself, which was relatively rare for Hendry (at least on that scale; you had that, Lee, Nomar and...Aramis? Am I missing anyone?). He usually chased trends via FA.

Harden - which I loved but is clearly the worst if hindsight comes into play.

Yeah, that was great, and so were all of the other ones I listed. The Pierre one was really the only outlier in terms of overpaying for someone they really didn't need based on an overly simplistic idea ("we need a leadoff hitrer!"). [expletive], Hendry's big trades were pretty good.

[expletive] I just remembered how much I hated the "but his trades are awesome!" defense of Hendry.

Burnitz was 6th in the league among guys who struck out 120 or more times.

Curt Schilling goes "dad mode" on twitter trolls posting vile stuff about his daughter and discovers and reveals their identities and subsequently gets them fired (one dude was a ticket sales rep for the Yankees) and suspended (a college DJ at the school his daughter got accepted to).

Same here, be very careful if you're canceling. You can cancel on the website but that's ONLY to cancel NEXT year's auto renewal. If you want a refund for this year you have to call them and ask.

I'm moving only 8 miles south from downtown Milwaukee and now can't get the Cubs on mlb.tv. It really [expletive] sucks that I'm moving into the Cubs viewing area and will add CSN Chicago to my cable lineup but will be able to actually see 50+ less games than I could get on MLB.tv.

I already got hit with my monthly renewal. It overdrafted my bank account. Thanks for the heads up, MLB.

Get a credit card you hump.

Also, with MLB.tv if you want to remove a credit card/debit card from your account you have to call them. You cannot delete it online. A few years ago when I wanted to remove the auto-renewal I also wanted to delete all my payment profiles, so they wouldn't have anything to charge. That only took like 3 phone calls to complete...

They could have at least made a pun. That might be their worst headline ever.

I don't know, I think the Post are at their best when they forgo wordplay in favor of succinct messaging:

I couldn't believe that. How many drunk-driving deaths and arrests does that organization need to rack up before self-important blowhards stop writing articles like that?

cards fans were very defensive when the stupidness was pointed out. A collective "we didn't write it".
