So rather than just signing Kendrys Morales earlier in the season, the Mariners decided to let somebody else sign him and then trade for him.

Who was the OF the White Sox somehow acquired like 3 separate times in a two year span about a decade ago?

Carl Everett or do you mean when they kept having to unretire Harold Baines's number because they retired it at like age 31.

Close...it was his brother.

I always make fun of my Sox fan friends that their big acquisition each winter is Sandy Alomar Sr. Pretty much because it always seemed they signed ancient guys or Sandy Alomar Jr each offseason.

Puig has 3 triples tonight against the Giants, something only 32 other players have done since 1914 (as far back as B-R goes).

The Dodgers have 5 triples in the game, something only 52 teams have done in the same span.

My dad also asked me how often a team has hit three triples in the same inning. Not sure if B-R can figure that one out though.

I could be wrong since I was a youngster at the time, and kids tend to 'misremember' thngs.....but I believe the Cubs did this back in the late 70s. If I remember correctly, the Cubs hit three consecutive triples. My childhood memory says it was Jerry Morales, Dave Kingman (yep, Kingman; a squib down the first base line) and a third player I can't recall. Again, I was just a kid so I may have gotten this one wrong. I'll do a little innerweb research.

Well, so much for my childhood memory. Morales and Kingman never played on the same Cubs team. I definitely remember the Kingman triple. The ony game I could find with a Kingman triple was a win against Steve Carlton (of all pitchers) and Steve Ontiveros and Gene Clines each also had a triple. Just not in the same inning.

HOF board cut eligibility from 15 years to 10

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11267278/baseball-hall-fame-cuts-election-eligibility-10-years

Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire will have less time to remain eligible for the Hall of Fame ballot under changes made Saturday.

The Hall of Fame's board cut a player's eligibility from 15 years to 10, which gives McGwire a maximum of two more appearances on the writers' ballot. Bonds, Clemens and Sosa, shunned so far along with other Steroids Era stars, can be considered up to eight more times each by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Greg Maddux saying pitching to contact doesn't exist:

http://m.mlb.com/chc/video/topic/6003532/v31294925/greg-maddux-on-entering-hall-of-fame-in-2014/?c_id=chc

(roughly 3 minute mark)

You really don't want to pitch to contact. You want the guy to miss that. I never understood the pitch to contact argument.

:yahoo: \:D/

Man I love Maddux.

Can't believe the question at the end. What would be a perfect game to you? You could tell Maddux just wanted to say well a perfect game, 27 up 27 down.

The journalist was saying well 27k's or 27 pitches.. lol who the hell cares!

And just like that, the Rays are 3.5 games out of a playoff spot after being 18 under .500 earlier in the year.

And here I was, making a condescending post about Friedman turning down Russell for Price. Didn't realize how well they've been doing lately.

If it makes you feel better, they're still less than 15% odds to make the playoffs, since they still need to leapfrog 4 more teams, they're tied with a 5th and a 6th is only a half game behind them.

they can't seriously be thinking of letting price walk for free

He has one more year, they can still trade him in the offseason or next July.
