Jose Fernandez's slider looks like Kerry Wood circa '98.

It's amazing how unnoticed his season is going behind the likes of Matt Harvey and Shelby Miler. He turned 21 just a couple weeks ago and he has posted a 2.74ERA along with a 1.04WHIP. All while striking out more than a batter an inning.

Is this year's NL rookie class one of the best ever? Between Shelby Miller(2.3), Yasiel Puig(2.5), Jose Fernandez(2.0), Hyun Jin Ryu(1.8), Jean Segura(3.1) and Starling Marte(3.5) this class has half a dozen rookies who could finish with at least 3.5fWAR. It may not have a Harper or a Trout, but the depth is ridiculous.

Do Segura and Marte qualify? Marte played in 47 games and had 182 PA's last year and Segura played in 45 games and had 166 PA's last year.

Am I the only one who didn't realize former Cubs 5th round pick Darin Downs has been pitching out of the Tigers' pen the last two seasons?

Guess those growth plates finally kicked in.

Wil Myers could have been up there too if the Rays weren't so interested in starting his clock late.

No. 130 AB's is the cutoff for rookie status, so neither are rookies

Not really that amazing that it's going unnoticed. The Marlins are MLB's version of the witness protection program.

Strop posted as many bWAR in his first 11 relief appearances for the Cubs as Pujols put up fWAR in year two of his quarter billion dollar contract.

That contract is gonna make the Soriano deal look like a great bargain. I didn't realize how quickly it would go bad for the Angels, as I figured Pujols still had a few elite/near elite years left, but that contract going bad was extremely predictable. I'm still shocked that people on this forum wanted us to go after Pujols.

I wonder if his real age will ever come out.

Now that the Dodgers woke up, it looks like the NL playoffs are basically set, with only Arizona within 5 games of a playoff spot.

Hell, the Cubs would be arguably the next most dangerous team in the NL after Arizona.

If plantar fasciitis is "proof" that someone is much older than they claim to be then Joakim Noah must actually be 63.

While there is no ""proof"" that Pujols is older than his listed age, the fact that he looks much older than his listed age and has an aging curve that suggests he's much older makes complaints like yours look really stupid. While no one, apparently, actually knows that he's much older, there's some evidence to support it, and a history of evidence like it being manufactured.

There's no physical evidence anyone is aware of that Pujols is, say, 37, but it's always seemed pretty likely.

Or maybe 63 years old is just about the middle of NBA careers. I'm not sure, I only watch 75 Bulls games a year.

It would explain Noah's fashion sense..

Man, harsh words. You must be about to school us all with some serious knowledge...

Oh. Hm. Well, maybe next time.

It was obvious that Pujols was lying about his age long before I even knew what plantar fasciitis was. What a weird comment.

Well, at the very least there are still division battles that do matter. Even if Pittsburgh is the leader for the wild card, they don't want to have their first shot at the playoffs to be a potential one and done scenario. The Dodgers are streaking, but they do only have a 2.5 game lead.

i have this same idiotic argument with a friend. of course, he'll never be proven "wrong" because no evidence will ever come out to the effect of "PUJOLS' STATED AGE PROVEN ACCURATE" so he can say dumb, unfounded [expletive] all the time without worrying about ever being shown to be a fool. he's now doing the same thing with CHRIS DAVIS OBVIOUSLY TAKES ROIDS.

Those arguments are hilarious. While I tend to have a strong suspicion that Pujols is probably 36 or 37, there's probably not going to be any way we hear about it until after his career is over and that Angels' contract has expired so he doesn't get sued. To try to say with any kind of definitiveness that he's older than he claims is just dumb.
