So none of the people who called Sveum an idiot for I'm guessing putting Marmol out there want to defend their opinion?

oh you're right, our worst reliever came into a tight game and immediately gave up two BBs, I beg for Dale's forgiveness.

And then?

a ball was hit hard that luckily went right to a fielder. You honestly think this was the best spot to let marmol work through his [expletive]? The (lucky) result doesn't justify the bad decision.

I'm still in shock sometimes over the radical change in image/philosophy that's happened with the Cubs in ONE offseason. So many new faces, new ideas...still hasn't sunk in. #1 in base running baby!

The Reed Johnson signing still is so damn weird

He's white and gritty and gives it his all and plays the game the right way and has edgy facial hair and runs into walls. What more reason do you need? Did I mention he's gritty?

You vastly overestimate Marmol's ability to blow a 2 run lead when you have another reliever(that doesn't walk anyone) available pretty much instantly.

Again, he gave up 2 walks because of a teacup strike zone, got a loud out, then mowed down 2 guys. It was a good outing.

which is all well and good, but again, until he works through his [expletive] and starts throwing strikes again, he shouldn't pitch in close games. If dale trusts him in the eighth there, why did he bother pulling him as closer?

Yea, I was mad at the fact that Marmol was pitching but didn't have any real qualms with the decision to bring him in, if that makes any sense.

He sure threw plenty of strikes today. Marmol's problem is as much mental as physical, and having a caddy ready to replace him if he gets into trouble as closer would be of no help in that aspect(not to mention unnecessary). Having someone ready at the sign of trouble in the middle innings is standard operating procedure.

plus, that being the case, in his own head, the mental load might be substantially lessened by not being the closer in for a save
