Hello May, hope you're better.

First half of (14 games): @Reds(3), Dodgers(3), Braves(3), @Brewers(3), @cardinals(2)

Second half of (14 games): Phils(2), White Sox(3), @Astros(3), @Pirates(3), Padres(3)

First 14 look pretty brutal. Latter half should be more manageable. Cubs would have to go 18-10 in May to break 0.500. My (optimistic) prediction: 15-13, putting us at 0.451.

15-13 would be [expletive] fantastic.

There really is no "class of the NL" this season. The Dodgers have been somewhat of a one man gang with Kemp and the Nats are off to a nice start, but there really are no teams in the NL that make me think "oh crap, them". Sure would have been a good year to be good.

I hope Barney is a little banged up or something. I don't really like DeWitt getting back to back starts.

Just looks like a lefty/righty thing. Arroyo's a mediocre righty and the Reds top relievers are Marshall and Chapman, both lefties Maybe Sveum's saving his righties for later.

I would hope that you wouldn't hold back someone from starting just to make them available against a certain reliever. Particularly a player with Barney's skillset when Johnson, Mather, Baker, and Castillo are all still on the bench. I'm sure it's because Arroyo has a pretty hefty split, but I just get a visceral reaction to seeing DeWitt in the lineup in consecutive games.

To expound on this point, the problem isn't using a left-handed specialist infielder against Arroyo. The problem is that our left-handed specialist infielder is as bad as Blake Dewitt.

i thought blake dewitt have a reverse platoon split anyway

Yep, with the obvious caveat of limited ABs.

Pouring here in Cincy right now. Hunkered down in a sushi restaurant about five minutes from downtown waiting for the storm to pass before I head down to the game. Looks like it should be through within the hour.

I just pulled up Chapman's numbers.

12.1 IP, 21:4 K:BB, 0 ER.

I hope Swaim doesn't think it matters who he saves to face that guy.

I hope Dusty continues to deem it important that he be a lefty bullpen arm.

Don't think this one is being played

radar looks pretty clear after the present cell moves on...i'm betting they take off the tarp within the next 30 minutes and get started by 8:00

It's been a heavy downpour for the last 45 minutes. This cell should be out of the area within the half hour. The field probably took on a lot of water, but GABP is always bragging about their drainage system, so who knows.
