Kim was given an 850K bonus. Worked 90-92, if I remember correctly, with excellent control. Unsure what his repertoire is, but he's not taken a step forward since coming to the US. Most interesting thing about him is he was a HS teammate of Hyuk Sung Han, who signed with Boras, but never signed with a team.

nelson perez weirdly has 11 walks in 13 games after coming into this year with 83 walks and 456 strikeouts in 426 minor league games. i mean, he's 24 and really not a prospect, just a weird statistical anomaly.

With Byrd being traded and the possibility of Jackson coming to Chicago soon, haven't we already delayed his free agency by a year by keeping him in AAA for the first three weeks of the season? I believe under the former CBA it only took 10-15 days in the minors to delay a player's free agency by a year (see Evan Longoria). However, I'm not sure if this changed with the new CBA.

It depends on each player's draft class and what all of the clubs in aggregate have done with players in that class. If B-Jax is among the top 17% in terms of quickest promotion to, and accumulation of service time in, the Majors, then we'd lose that extra year of club control.

Regardless of any financial or "business"-related reason for not promoting, there are plenty of "baseball"-related ones for not doing so, too. (See, e.g., his strikeout rate.) There is literally no reason to promote him at any point before he both (1) is clear of Super 2 status and (2) has wrestled his contact issues to the ground sufficiently so that he won't be doomed to fail once he arrives at Wrigley.

My hunch is that it's going to take a little longer (didn't Castro come up in early May and still make Super-Two?) Either way, I really don't anticipate Brett Jackson until the summer months at best, and it wouldn't really stun me if we didn't see him until the fall.

Delaying free agency and super 2 are different concepts that it seems like people are lumping together. If it hasn't happened already, in the next few days the Cubs will have delayed Jackson's free agency for another year. The Super 2 date isn't usually until late May/early June depending on the year, but that's about when a player hits arbitration, not when a player is allowed to get to free agency.

So in the case of Castro, the Cubs held him down long enough to delay his free agency, but not long enough to avoid him being a Super 2. So he'll start arbitration after this year, but he'll have 4 arbitration years so he will have been in the majors almost 7 years before he hits free agency.

ah, your right. Just kept thinking Super Two and not about the implications as it relates to FA.

That said, still don't think Brett Jackson is coming up anytime before the summer months, and still wouldn't be surprised if they kept him in the minors until late summer.

Probably as good of news as anything we'll get on the minor league front tonight. He's still got plenty of time for things to click.

i wouldn't get too excited about him taking an intentional walk.

Lol. Oh well, I take it as a positive if he took 4 straight then. Seriously though, if we're changing his approach, this season will be interesting. My guess is we won't see a power surge from him until the second half.

It was 3-0 and then they intentionally walked him.
