VittersBB No.5

Probably as good of news as anything we'll get on the minor league front tonight. He's still got plenty of time for things to click.

i wouldn't get too excited about him taking an intentional walk.

It was 3-0 and then they intentionally walked him.

is that really scored as an intentional walk? i thought at least 2 of the pitches had to be intentional balls for it to be scored an IBB.

Yes. An intentional walk requires only one intentional ball.

Good to see some semblance of possibly upside starting pitching in the system. Jensen seems interesting-ish, though I seriously doubt he's got anything more than the upside of a 3 starter. Right off the bat he's a short RH who isn't an uber athlete...OTOH if he crisps up that curveball and firms up his fastball...Yeaaaah, maybe I should just let these guys develop.

Speaking of Tayler Scott:

Tayler Scott: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 29 pitches (18 strikes), 6/1 GO/FO

Again, I have to say he was my favorite of the arms drafted last year. Here's some video that was thrown up on Youtube of him here:

Who is Jin-Young Kim and should I care? I smell bonus baby but no clue on age, stuff, or what hype he came in with. Also, I have yet to see the OTHER Baez in XST in a box score this year. Does he just suck or something?

Beyond Tayler Scott, Carlos Penalver with a really good game at extended: http://www.thecubreporter.com/2012/04/21/penalver-mightier-sword

Also, in the comments, Phil mentioned your boy Jeffery Baez was out the last few days with a left wrist injury.

I really hope Penalver gets more time at short. The early scouting reports released on him suggested a potentially good defender there. Granted, there were offensive questions (so we may be looking more Eliot Soto than a starter).

As a side note, Arismendy Alcantara is having an interesting season. Walks and K's are roughly near last year's mark, but power is way up in the SSS so far, and BABIP suggests some bad luck on batted ball. I'm not exactly a "fan" or gung-ho about him, but Marwin Gonzalez took some time to develop into something that people were intrigued with, and Alcantara probably has better shortstop ability than Marwin. Something worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses (of course, Marwin never K'd as much and walked more, but maybe Alcantara adjusts as he matures).

Thanks...wrist is never good.
