Dolis should not throw another pitch in a Cubs uniform

Yeah, and Darwin Barney should never field another routine ground ball in a Cubs uniform.

If not for the stupid Marlin grounding into a DP, I'm not sure Dolis would have thrown one effective strike all night. He really hasn't had much control or command in any of his appearances. Give someone else a shot.

Sorry, but he has had less than ten innings in the majors. He's easily our best option to stick long-term. Let him have his growing pains and learn.

Not to mention that he's one of two guys in our pen that will likely be around beyond 2013. Russell's likely the other.

It's sad when we're 11 games into the season and I'm following Cubs games in the same manner I do minor league games in which I'm more interested in the lines of select players than the final score itself. At east Dempster was spared the L. He could fetch a pretty penny if he can keep pitching like he has for another month or 2.

i'm pretty tired of watching soriano play baseball for the cubs. fortunately he's becoming so lousy that it's extremely unlikely he'll remain an everyday player through 2014.

I don't know when we'll pull the plug on him. My gut tells me midseason of next year.

.... and the CUBS haven't hit a HR since Friday !! [sigh]

Yup, definitely expected to be reading things like that during this year back in the winter

I think that our best hope is to pick up the full remainder of his salary and hope for something like the Sosa return. If we're going to take that much of a bath, may as well get something in return. Someone would bite on that, right?

Am I reading correctly that Soriano's slugging percentage is equal to his batting average? After 11 games he has hit nothing better than a single??? I guess it could be worse... He could be OPS'ing .135.

This team is going to lose 100 games this year, easy.

Oh, [expletive] that noise.

Does it matter? So what if they "only" lose 90. We're rebuilding, and hopefully in a few years Theo can turn us into worldbeaters.

He'd better start throwing strikes. Nothing is more annoying than a pitcher who doesn't throw strikes. That Hanley homer was so predictable I called it before the pitch.

Congratulations. Treat yourself to a cookie for your successful pessimism.

You've got a great future in the erik arts.

Well, yes, it "matters." It's an even more uphill battle to improve a team that loses at least 100 games as opposed to 90, but my point was more dismissing how unlikely it is that they even lose 100 games in the first place.

I really don't even understand why anyone gets upset with a loss this year. It's about finding guys who will be on this team when we've turned it around. Camp, Lopez, Kerry Wood, Dewitt, Johnson, Mather, and Soriano are of no consequence to us. They either suck or have no chance of being dealt. I'm hopeful that some of Dempster, Maholm, Marmol, Soto, Baker, LaHair, Byrd, and DeJesus play well. Because they have a shot at turning into something else that actually helps us down the road. Anyone not mentioned? They ALL have a chance to be on the Cubs when this thing is turned around, so just watch and hope to see progress. If you're sitting there, throwing remotes and screaming during 2012, it's the wrong way to look at things. Period.

You don't understand why people get upset when they're favorite team loses, or you don't understand why the usual game thread ruiners act like the usual game thread ruiners?

I totally get that game threads are where it's easier to be irrational. And no one wants to see their favorite team lose. But the writing was on the wall for this season before it started. Sure, hope for the best, but try and enjoy the process. Because if anyone's truly getting pissed over THIS team losing, it's kind of unhealthy.

No matter how bad you may think they'll be, it's still a hell of a lot more fun to win game than to lose. If you're talking about people like Erik, he was spazzing out with every loss in '08, there's no hope there.
