Damn, Zapata hit his 2nd homer.

What's the story with that guy?

Speedy, OBP guy who's supposed to have no power.

I thought Zapata was the guy with decent pop, just a Kirby Puckett type body. I didn't think speed was a big part of his game.

I always figured he was one of those Mike Fontenot Sneaky Power types.

I was really glad to see McNutt take what looked like another step forward. While half-following the game on Gameday I noticed that he was constantly getting ahead in the count and then just failing to seal the deal. He did settle down as the game progressed, however.

McNutt needs to be more economical. Throwing 80 pitches in 4 innings has to improve. I think he's thrown lots of pitches per inning in all 3 of his starts.

Szczur 4-5 (all singles) with a run scored to raise his average above the Mendoza line.

OBP is at 370, though, so that's nice.

Unfortunately his SLG is also 216 to match his BA

Good to see an Iowa pitcher with a nice outing, oh wait, it was the worthless one.

What's with Vitters and his odd playing time/positions this year? Is it my imagination or has he barely spent half the games at 3B?

10 games at 3B, 1 game at DH, 1 game off so far.

That's weird, I felt like I saw him at something other than 3B a few times. Has he been batting 8th this whole time?

I don't know if it's been every game, but most games, yeah.

I don't think it's been every game (I think he was higher in the order to start). And I'm pretty sure 1 of those games that he played at 3B he didn't start.

games 1-2 he started at 3rd and hit 8th. Then he sat, then he started at 3rd and hit 8th in games 4-6. He hit 7th in game 7-8. 8th in games 9-10. Inserted toward the end of game 11 at 3B and in the 8 spot again yesterday. So 2 non-starts. 7 starts at 3B in the 8th spot. 2 spots at 3B in the 7 spots and 1 start at DH in the 8 spot.

Is there some sort of expectation that he will be worked around in the 8 spot, forcing him to see more pitches?

Maybe he could be a Juan Pierre type.

Literally laughed out loud at this.

More economical...more consistent...He's definitely always had the "throws alot of pitches early" knock...Right with Vitters as the hardest player to gauge in this system, but I have significantly more confidence in Vitters. I seriously have no [expletive] clue

as to what out of McNutt.

Does anyone have any velocity reports for him so far? Is he more of a 91-94 type righty?

As long as you understood that it (the Pierre comment) was a joke.

As for McNutt, if he continues to have those high pitch counts, I wonder if they'll consider trying him as a closer.
