Wasn't Raley somewhat well regarded when he was drafted? Seems like he has a chance to be more than an organizational filler if nothing else.

Raley was regarded as a guy who had upside when drafted. IIRC, he was either a two sport guy or someone who hadn't been pitching long. It was expected that he'd add a couple ticks to the fastball and sharpen the breaking ball with more time on the mound. It hasn't happened at all, though, and isn't likely to at this point.

Happy Opening Day in Peoria :) Right on schedule, the low for the evening = 33. Looking forward to seeing the guys for the first time tonight, though!

Heh, dress warm and enjoy the opener.

Glad to see Cates listing for tonight, I'd thought there had been some question about whether he was healthy... Hopefully he starts well.

So, if I'm remembering correctly, that will be Loosen-Jokisch-Simpson-Cates for Daytona. Leaving Concepcion/Kirk as the fifth starter candidates. I'm curious whether Concepcion really will be starting tomorrow, and if so how low his pitch count might be. Well, and I guess I'm also curious whether he'll be effective.

Raley was a two-way player at Texas A&M and drafted as a sophomore.

Pretty sure Concepcion is starting the year on the 7 day DL, staying in EXST, so he can build up some arm strength. Since he got such a late start this spring.

I have no idea if Concepcion is with Daytona already but he is indeed on the 7-day DL.

Cut out of work a tad early today so I can make it to Peoria's opener on time. I'm excited.

Things are not going well for Cates.

Well, he did get a K. He just gave up 7 hits, 6 runs, and 4 walks as well, in his 1 plus inning of superbly pitched baseball.

There's a player of some interest at every position for Iowa right now, plus Wood is pitching.

Rizzo homers on a 3-0 pitch. Up to the millisecond OPS: 1.222
