Yes you can, patience isn't just about taking balls. It's about running up the opposing pitchers' pitch count. Getting yourself out in a hurry against a guy who had TJS not too long ago and is probably going to be monitored for workloads just isn't a great idea.

Patience is also about hitting the hittable pitches, and the Cubs did that. It makes no sense to watch a hittable fastball go by for a strike just in the name of taking pitches.

I agree to an extent but if you fall behind 0-2, 1-2 to a guy like Strasburg your going to strike out and give up precious outs. If you swing at strikes you could get a hit.
