Opening Week? That's the answer to the weird Opening Day timing? Who says Opening Week?

Selig, I guess.

It's particularly stupid when you consider that first game of the season was 8 days ago and 15 more teams won't open until tomorrow. Opening "Week".

I've got a good feeling about the game today and the season for the most part. I put in my futures bet of Cubs Over 73.5 wins, so are we thinking 74-88 is possible? I think that looks even a tad low for my expectations....which are basically tread water until June and hopefully show some progress to finish close to .500.

While not being awful and boring to watch along the way.

June is probably when they dump whoever is left with any value. The wins after that could be much harder to come by.

But, I am looking forward to watching this year.

Baker confirmed to be getting the start. Against a tough righty.

He's probably a better defender than Mather, so I like it.

He's still a career .239/.292/.364 hitter against righties.

I can't look at the roster and insist that there's a better option, so I guess this says more about our roster construction than Sveum's choice.

I always enjoy Small Sample Overreaction Week.

I like playing Fun with Sample Sizes early in the season. For example, David Freese is on pace to drive in 324 runs while hitting no homers.

Cubs get off on the right foot vs. what could be a pretty scrappy team today. I watched Strasburg's return start last week and he was far from being tough. The Cardinals slapped him around pretty good.

In THIS game I go with Dempster. Cubs win 7-3 8-)

Opening Week? That's the answer to the weird Opening Day timing? Who says Opening Week?

Really makes no sense, as in past years you only painted the "opening week" logo if you wound up with one of the second round home openers.

Detroit has "opening day," which makes the Wrigley paint even more unusual.

I thought even people who opened on the road painted Opening Day when they had their home opener. I don't recall ever seeing Opening Week before.

4-3 Cubs. Dempster is amped and has too many walks again but the wind blowing in helps him off the hook. Marmol gets the save.

Bold predictions: Barney is 2-4 with a double and a run. Stewart hits the first HR of the season.
