I remember the howls from Giant fandom when Big Jim signed Dusty. Who could possibly miss the missteps that marred their 1993, '97, '98, and 2000 seasons?

When Cincinnati signed him, I was astounded that a team within the division - an organization that was across the diamond when he batted out of order and had a front row seat for the lunacy of the last days of the 2004 meltdown - would sign up for the hell we had been through.

Surely Baker has managed his last game in Cincinnati. Who will be the next bunch of suckers?

According to Jocketty, they want him back. So if it was his last, it will be Dusty's decision, presumably.

I really doubt he's managed his last game unless his health problems are more severe than reported.

The Reds signed manager Dusty Baker to a two-year contract extension on Monday morning.

The press conference will be held at 3:00 p.m. ET inside Great American Ball Park. Baker led the Reds to a fantastic 97-65 record and a first-place finish in the National League Central division this season. He has a 419-391 record since taking over the managerial job in Cincinnati back in 2008.

He loses a series to a vastly inferior team and gets an extension? lol, I mean, sorry Johnny Cueto, but, lol

This is really great news for the Cubs though, he'll run that team right into the ground by the time we are ready to contend in a few years.

Christ, I can't believe he's been there since 2008. I completely forgot it had been that long.

he's been there to oversee the changing of the guard from the cubs to the reds as the good non-stl nl central team

Unbelievable. I have no ill will toward the man making a living, but why on earth would a team like the Reds - big contracts, limited window - give this butcher two more years?

I love this: http://deadspin.com/dusty-baker-wants-fights-to-settle-disputes-in-the-mlb-510012052

Just put them in a room, let them box and let it be over with. I always said this, let it be like hockey, let them fight, someone hits the ground and it's over with. I'm serious about that.

You have to admire Dusty Baker's consistency: if there's a way to injure a pitcher, he'll damn well find it
