It's going to take multiple questions at the convention, if we're to get any light shed on his lack of funds and the debt structure. The first answer will surely be some semblance of a canned, rehearsed, stock answer. Then someone needs to bring up things in detail and ask for a more pointed answer, since there are definitely glaring warning signs out there.

Doesn't NSBB have some sort of Cubs press pass? Lets send a rep with a list of questions and rebuttals during the convention for Ricketts.

Anyone here have journalism experience? (Other than Bruce Miles)

Edit: I guess imb would work too. I'd say Kyle, but he'd probably get our pass revoked

Loxas reporting that a deal with the rooftops appears imminent

http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-insider/2014/01/cubs-and-rooftop-association-deal-appears-imminent/

These negotiations have dragged on for quite some time, It now seems just about everyone involved sees a resolution, as long as rooftop owners promise no future threat of litigation, a major sticking point with Ricketts.

All along, it's been the right field facet of the roof toppers that would be more affected by the renovation proposals. Yet, the owners had to stay united. One of the stickier points in the negotiations has involved the owners of the Sheffield Ave. rooftop building the Miller Lite advertisement adorns.

I'm told, as of 2015, that signage will be phased out, per the agreement.

On that note, I'm told the Cubs have entered a ten-year, $140 million, Budweiser signage deal that includes the right field signage, as well as the Jumbotron. The Cubs simply could not have Bud's main competitor having that ad intertwined. A deal had to be reached, and was.

I'm told these negotiations need be resolved by February 1. Tuesday could be the day an agreement will be reached. It could have been sooner, but Kenney was involved in traveling to LA to woo Masahiro Tanaka.

This deal will have some of the similar structure the rooftop owners agreed to ten years ago, and it will run until 2024. At that point, the rooftop owners will no longer have a stake in the game.

More great news on the Cubs today:

http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2014/1/22/5334672/cubs-rooftop-owners-likely-headed-to-court

... sources said remarks made by Ricketts and Team President Crane Kenney at last week’s Cubs’ convention mirrored Ganis’ remarks and angered the rooftop owners.

On Tuesday, yet another negotiating session was held and it did not go well. Sources said the rooftop owners demanded that the massive video scoreboard planned for left-field also be moved to the top of a rooftop building.

Cubs spokesman Julian Green was tight-lipped about the team’s intentions.

But he issued a statement that left little doubt the matter would be resolved in court.

"We have worked hard to reach a resolution with our rooftop partners which would have helped preserve their views, including reducing the number, size and location of signs. Unfortunately, they opted yesterday to reject the proposal and file this lawsuit," Green said.

"Since our approvals last year, we have been anxious to get the Wrigley Field renovation started. Yesterday’s action will certainly force additional delays to our project."

There was a small part of me that was like...watch those negative comments about the rooftops ruin this whole thing.

And I was like, "Nah, of course that would never happen."

Oh and Loxas remains on a roll.

It does look like they're installing the RF sign whether the rooftops like it or not, though.

The long-running dispute between the Cubs and rooftop club owners standing in the way of a $500 million plan to renovate Wrigley Field and develop the land around it will be resolved in the courts — not at the bargaining table.

That much was obvious Wednesday when the Cubs privately declared their intention to apply for a city permit to put up a 650-square-foot, see-through sign in right field that, the rooftop owners claim, will block their bird’s-eye view of the century-old stadium.

The decision to take immediate advantage of a sign already authorized by the City Council was made after a stormy negotiating session Tuesday and after rooftop club owners filed a defamation lawsuit against a stadium financing consultant who once advised the Cubs’ prior owner, the Tribune Co.

What'd they say?

What'd they say?

Crane alluded to how much of a revenue drain the rooftops are on the team - said $20M - (which is kind of ridiculous even though I hate the RTOs) and Ricketts compared them to a neighbor peering through the window and watching your Showtime shows who gets mad when you close the drapes.

What'd they say?

rooftops cost us 20million dollars a year

rooftops are a drag on the team

rooftops are the same as people watching showtime through your window and the city won't let us stop them like we'd like

Then again, from the actual Sun Times article, it looks like things already didn't look headed toward a resolution last week, so maybe they figured it was time to start the smear campaign.

Seems pointless because I don't know of anybody who is on the rooftops side outside of the rooftops themselves.
