At the time the deal was signed, it was seen as an indirect way to expand Wrigley, which was always sold out and always would be for a long time, or so it was believed.

Wasn't the deal done in 2002? It wasn't until 2003 when selling out every day became the norm.

I recall the Cubs blocking the rooftops with screens. Was it the deal that caused that to stop or something with landmark status? Would have been interesting to erect the screens and just let them die out.

Ugh. I really hate the idea of a JumboTron.

I dont see the hate for it.

Maybe for nostalgic sakes but I think Wrigley has enough nostalgia between being around 100 years, the Marquee, the Scoreboard, the brick wall, the Ivy, the neighborhood, and just going to the stadium and thinking wow Babe Ruth played here, Ernie Banks, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Lou Gehrig, Stan Musial, Sandy Koufax, etc.

I dont see what the Jumbotron does that bothers people accept maybe lose a bit of the view of the skyline outside Wrigley.

I've been to ballparks around the whole country and yeah they yell for fans to make noise and bs like that but its never came to the point that it annoyed me or got in the way of me watching the game. Its not like I'm watching the jumbotron while the ball is being pitched, its for in between innings or plays.

Plus most importantly, added revenue. PnL is king.

I like that they get more night games, but it's not as many as I would've hoped. I hope it's not long before they get that number in the 50+ range, but I figure it will be a while given that the agreement on 40 is brand new.

And I wonder if they ended up getting the city to concede on the 40 night games being a baseline, unaffected by any games switched by networks.

Is the renovation supposed to begin after this season?

You'd have to think so. The deal only took 2 weeks longer than the original deadline. I know there were reports that it was too late, but I doubt the accuracy of that.

I know they want the player facility upgrades to happen ASAP.

Well, they're not losing much since Wrigley is "facing" the wrong way for almost anyone in the park to see the only skyline in the city that matters.

In the official proposal link I didn't see tons of details in terms of how the infrastructure/aesthetics inside the stadium will be improved. I'm guessing that's because those weren't hot button issues with the neighborhood/city? I mean all those amenities (hotel, triangle building) around the stadium are nice, but as a fan, I most want a "beautified" Wrigley Field, first and foremost.

It's been stated for a while that they don't need much of any approval for improving the grandstands, but they plan on doing that in pieces over the next 5 years.

Did you miss the all of the renovation stuff presented at Cubs Convention in January?

The fight was about getting permission to do the things they wanted to do to get the work paid for, which has much more to do with the signage and night games than anything actually directly pertaining to the renovations.

The renderings from January didn't include the jumbotron, I'd assume, because they didn't want to publicly unveil that before entering negotiations.

They should put an updated board in the marquee.

It's not like the current electronic one dates so far back that it should upset people...when did they put that in? Late 70s? Early 80s?

It is still covered by the landmark designation though, correct?

That's a good point. I think you're right.

Friend of mine with too much time on his hands mocked up a board to the 5000 sq. ft. scale.
