A White Sox friend of mine was telling me that Valbuena also terrorizes the White Sox. I looked it up, and he has a .308/.378/.474 line vs. the Sox and is pretty much hapless against everyone else aside from a very small sample size vs. the Cubs (1.538 OPS) and Brewers (.967 OPS). I guess he likes the greater Chicagoland area.

To get non-roster invitees Joe Mather, Shawn Camp and Blake DeWitt on the opening day roster, the Cubs cleared two spots on the 40-man roster, putting Marcos Mateo on the 60-day disabled list with ulnar neuritis and waiving John Gaub, whom the Rays claimed.

Just saw this posted in the Cubs Discussion forum under the "25 Man Roster" thread. Sorry for the double post.

Whoops I'm an idiot sorry about the new thread. Low risk, high reward. He was very good last season with the Dodgers.

It's a decent enough gamble but there isn't high reward with a guy who is a halfway decent setup man when he's at his best.

@BleacherNation: Depth after DeWitt injury. RT @eddymk Cubs sign SS/3B Diory Hernandez, whom Astros released last wk. .159/.240/.159 (50 PA) for OKC this yr.

Cubs sign light hitting, career minor league middle infielder. Moments later, remember that Jonathon Mota exists.

Cubs signed LHP Hong-Chih Kuo to a minor league contract.

Kuo will have to climb his way up the ladder of Chicago's minor league system, but this is a worthwhile gamble for the Cubs. They invest nothing and could potentially unearth an asset for one of baseball's worst bullpens. It seems like an eternity ago, but Kuo was one of the most dominant relievers in the game in 2010, a season in which he was an All-Star. In his seven-year MLB career, the 30-year-old left-hander has had five elbow operations, two Tommy John surgeries, and missed significant time with an anxiety disorder. The Cubs figure to be patient with him.

I like Kuo and I like the move. My guess is he's a very fast mover, just have to hope like hell you can kerp him healthy.

In the most obvious summary ever...

If he's got something left and can stay healthy, it's a great move. If not, we haven't lost much.

Didn't know where to put this, but from Rosenthal..

Source: #Cubs drawing interest in Baker, Johnson as well as the more familiar names. Both could be RH bats off bench for contenders.

Probably nothing more than PTBNL or cash, but still.
