Hearing it's very similar to the Lynch deal

That was 4 years 31M with 17 guaranteed.

That isn't too bad. Essentially 2 years guaranteed. Can you take the hit on the guaranteed dollars in the first two years? Or do you have to spread it over the contract?

Earl Bennett: "Phil Emery is doing a great job. He wants to win and wants to win now and has improved the team." Emery should take a bow.

That's what I was trying to argue several weeks ago. Even if it's 20Mil guaranteed, that's basically 2.5 years guaranteed. He was guaranteed this year at the franchise tag anyway, so you're committing 1.5 extra years to him. You can keep him around thru 2014, and he'll only be 28 then.....that seems to be about the magic number for RBs to take a huge nosedive. His touches have been minimized some the last 2 years, after a ton his first 2 years and in college. His touches should continue to stay within reason now that Cutler has some actual players other than him to throw the ball to.

I'm very happy with this deal. I expect 5 years. I expected closer to 40Mil.

Hard to find too much fault with this. Solid move. Address O-Line and D all over next year in the draft. Emery's done well so far.

So he's made because the Bears are paying him 8 million this year, instead of 7.77 million? ok..ummm....

It's going to be an interesting year for Forte. Presumably, he won't catch near the number of balls that he has in the best few years. He may also be blocking more on passing plays, since we have receivers that should be able to get open.

If the Bears release him after next year and Forte allowed himself to be franchised two years in a row, would Forte have made more money that way?

yes, he would have. forte sacrificed a little money for some security and the bears gambled slightly that forte will be healthy these next two years. but after that, they can cut him, he will affect cutler's deal in no way.

I believe last year the Bears were offering 1 more season, but 4 million less in guaranteed money. So for all this huffing and puffing by Forte, he essentially got four more million in guaranteed money. The Bears totally won this standoff, imo.

He looks a bit skinny in that photo.

After all the drama Briggs and Forte created about their contracts, they both end up locked up and remain Bears.

I know he was going to being playing eventually, but it is nice that this got done and everyone can concentrate on football now, and I can get excited about this team now.

EDIT - and for signing a multimillion dollar contract, couldn't they scrounge up a nicer pen for Matt?

Forte is due $9.8 million this season, including signing and roster bonuses. He would have made $7.74 million in '12 under the franchise tag. His cap hit now for this season is $6.8 million. But Forte essentially would have made the same amount of guaranteed money had the Bears elected to franchise him two years in a row.

The "strong offer" team President Ted Phillips referred to back in March apparently was the $17.1 million guaranteed figure, and a source said the Bears never budged thereafter.

Not to mention Forte >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Marshawn Lynch.

Debatable, but probably. Lynch was ridiculous the second half of last year though.

And now Marshawn Lynch gets his 2nd DUI (1st one killed someone IIRC) and will likely be suspended for a lot of next season. LOL Seattle.

Nah, he hit some drunk lady that was dancing in the middle of the street during the first one, but she didn't die. It was a hit and run though.
