Bears will not attempt to re-sign Hanie. No shocker there...

http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/7654144/chicago-bears-not-bring-back-caleb-hanie

McCown impressed the Bears' coaching staff last season and is considered a strong candidate to be re-signed, perhaps as the No. 3 quarterback. That would allow the Bears to pursue a more high-profile No. 2 quarterback in free agency, such as Kyle Orton, who might strongly consider returning to Chicago in a reserve role if he fails to land a starting job somewhere else in the league. Orton, however, would probably require a hefty contract by backup quarterback standards.

Somebody will give Orton a starting job, won't they?

Hopefully Hanie already has a high school coaching position locked up.

Yep. I'm fine with McCown as the #2.

Lovie Smith went out and dined with WR Stephen Hill according to the Trib.........

I think the two WR prospects I like the best are the obvious choices of Hill and Floyd.

I like Blackmon the best, but yea

I think Blackmon is in his own tier and at this point, I think Floyd has a tier to himself as well. I'd put Wright and Hill in a small group together(even if they're completely different players), followed by a group that includes Jeffrey, Sanu, and Randle. To me, that's where the line gets drawn. Have to add one of these guys, preferrably even if we do get a solid WR thru FA, but DEFINITELY if we don't. If we don't add one in FA, but do get one of this set of guys, I'd also want one of McNutt, Toon, Criner, Quick, Broyles, Jenkins, Marvin Jones, Streeter, Givens, or Adams.

Depends. Even though not having a decent backup QB literally destroyed a promising season last year, I am not sure that something like that happens often enough to spend big on backup QB. But if we do have some money lying around after our FA signings are done and draft picks are signed, I wouldnt be opposed to signing Orton. As long as we keep the amount guaranteed low.

I only follow the draft to a certain degree, but I'm not a fan of the Adams pick.

I'm hoping to stand pat and take Wright if Floyd doesn't make it. Talk out of Stephen Hill's pro day was his cuts out of his routes don't match up with his 40 time. There will have to be development and good coaching there. He would be a risky 1st round pick that someone won't be able to pass on due to his measurables.

Wright's pro day isn't until March 21st, he burns a good 40 time and perhaps Floyd drops after all.

I fail to see why the Cards would take a WR with that pick.

I'd be pretty surprised if they don't go Oline - but there's some definite possibles Floyd could go to before 19 comes along.

I rather have DeCastro than Adams... DeCastro is legit. I can see him being the next Hutchinson. Others I would take over Adams: Cox/Perry/Wright/Glenn/Konz and probably Hill

Holy crap... I didn't see that. Add him to my list of guys I would take over Adams. I've now seen a couple mock drafts where Jonathan Martin is NOT picked in the 1st round. Interesting... Heck I've seen a mock draft where Ingram was picked in the 2nd round and another where Luke Kuechly almost made it to Bears 2nd round pick. I got a laugh out of those...

Latest VJax news:

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Cortland Finnegan has been trying to recruit Vincent Jackson as a package deal in free agency, most likely to the Buccaneers.

Cole acknowledges the Bears are also a possibility for the dynamic duo. We suspect the Vikes could be in the mix as well. All three teams have not only salary cap space, but also a need at cornerback and receiver. Finnegan has been texting Jackson, though it's not clear just how much interest the latter has in tagging along. The package deal would take the Cowboys out of the picture for Finnegan.

I know when I'm considering that next life-altering career move, I usually just pick up my iPhone to see who is texting me.

I'd rather just sign Jackson and hire a full time designated driver for him.

Bears may be interested in trading for Freeney. I am OK with this assuming he would restructure. On the other hand, Pompeii raises a scenario where we may go hard after Mario and if we miss, turn our attention to V-Jax AND Mincey. As much as I like Mario, I think I would prefer option two.

Bears have a long history of being screwed out of draft order. Sometimes its the meaningless win. Often it is the dreaded strength of schedule.
