To me, it would make more sense for Deron to force a trade to Orlando, and team up w/Dwight there. These players are goofy.

I think there was a way last year that Lebron, Wade, and Bosh ALL could have wound up in Chicago, with Rose and Noah. At the very least, we know it was possible for any 2 of the 3 to do it. Why didn't it happen? We'll never know, but they chose to play in Miami with no help, over joining a team that was much better, with them on it, than what they got themselves into. Was it because they're stupid? Or was it because they just didn't want to play in Chicago? I hate saying it, but my guess is the latter. And now, Howard's probably going to go down the same path. We can try and win by playing "team" basketball all we want, but it's very likely that what we're going to do, is be the Utah Jazz, Cleveland Cavs, New York Knicks type of excellent teams that never won it all. Bitch about SSR trolling about this if you want, but he's right. There's a reason these guys aren't coming here. And if we can't change that, it's likely we continue to be damn good, but not great.

First off you are wrong about getting all three. Miami event get the 3 max deals n they had purged their roster of everything but I think Mario chalmers. Iirc we could get a full max an under the max and still keep rose and Noah.

An the rest of the post is wrong. NBA players like Miami for reasons other than Mickey arison, pat Riley and whoever their fan base is. Chicago cannot change climates, geographical features or club scenes to entice free agents. I think you are completely missing the reasons these guys wanna play here they wan to play.

Also we have the reiging MVP, won 62 games and played a respectable ECF series against a legit great team. With our centerpiece bing 23 years old we have already eclipsed the pinnacle reached by the 80s an early 90s caves teams an I soil say our floor is to hav a 90s Knicks-like run.

I'm pretty sure there was a sign and trade involving Deng that could have gotten us the 3rd guy. May have had another piece or two involved and we would have been signing vet minimum guys to fill out the roster, but I do think there was a way to do it. Maybe they missed max deals by a mill or so, can't remember, but the bottom line is they chose to play elsewhere, with a lesser supporting cast over playing for us.

For S's and G's, let's rank the top ten NBA free agency destinations:

1) Miami (hard to argue with this given what went down two offseasons ago)

2) Los Angeles Lakers (who wouldn't want to see Dyan Cannon's stretched face and sickly body 41 nights a year?)

3) New York Knicks (Big Ego's; Big City; Big Championship Drought (40 years) = Chance To Be A Legend)

4) Los Angeles Clippers (Griffin, Paul, etc. Almost an overnight change.)

5) Chicago (for all the reasons stated above; without the cold we jump ahead of the Clips and maybe the Knicks as well)

6) Dallas (warm weather, great owner and facilities, good roster)

7) Oklahoma City (amazing roster full of incredible young talents; coach who lets you open things up; fans love it...yeah, its OK City, but the organization itself is pretty amazing)

8) Phoenix (sure the team sucks, but players seem to love living there)

9) Portland (rabid fan base, great cost of living, owner with unlimited resources, and history of attracting major talents)

10) Denver (exciting team, crazed fans, and room for improvement. Maybe one big piece away from legit title contention?)

Honorable Mention: Boston (obviously great tradition in a huge market, but fans turn on you in a second and there's a documented history of racism)

San Antonio (incredibly well-run organization in warm weather city, but roster is more than a little long in the tooth)

Houston (warm weather and a fan base that will come out when the team is good)

Atlanta (bad fans, but team is talented (if less so than other teams) and ownership spends money)

New Jersey (promise of playing in Brooklyn and an owner who appears to be willing to spend and be creative)

As long as Cuban owns the Mavs, I'd put them ahead of the Clips on your list. Boston would be much higher for me as well, the tradition and market would dwarf the fans crap for me.

New Jersey and Boston should be way higher.

I see your argument re Boston, but not Jersey. The team is awful and it's best player is rumored to want out, having been there less than one full season. Plus they will always be second fiddle to the Knicks in a way that is harder to make-up than the Lakers-Clippers dynamic.

Boston's tradition is a definite draw - I get that argument.

If wanting to play for Mark Cuban pushes big D up the list than not wanting to play for Don Sterling should drop LAC off the list. LAC have NEVER landed a free agent by doing anything other than massively overpaying them.

There are rarely situations where many teams are all capable and willing to give the max allowable contract to the same guy. July 2010 only happened once and I guess in 1999 with Duncan, Tmac, and Grant Hill something similiar happened, but these are extreme rarities. The CBA makes it even more of a rarity. Guys are gonna go where the money is and for superstars, its gonna be the team that drafted you.

If Orlando calls dwights bluff, and does not deal him, I bet he stays. I think Carmelo may have stayed in Denver had they called his bluff. I cant recall a single star player leaving as much money on the table as you would have to under the CBA to sign where you want to sign.

Joe Johnson definately wanted to be a Bull, but Atlanta made an offer he couldnt turn down. Rudy Gay probably wanted out of Memphis as well. Both guys got the NBA hometown premium. Stat went to New York because the knicks spent 5 years shedding contracts in order to land Lebron James and after failing that, they threw 5/100 at Amare, something no other team was willing to do. Amare could get amnestied before that deal is finished.

Basically, if you take the outlier of Bosh/Wade/Lebron conspiring to play together (in miami) during the '08 summer games, everybody that signed went to the highest bidder. I dont think the city/franchise is as important as people are making it out to be.

I don't see why the Nets have a harder time making up ground than the Clippers. The Clippers were synonymous with losing, and the Lakers are one of two legendary franchises in the NBA. The Knicks haven't won in a million years, and the Nets are going to at least be new to the area. The Nets without DWill still aren't in as pathetic a shape as the Knicks were before D'antoni went there.

Was listening to B&B and there were plenty of callers suggesting the Bulls NOT trade for Howard. Needless to say, Bernstein' radio eyes were popping out his head while trying to reason with the callers. Howard + Rose = NBA Championship, Miami has no answer for a team with Rose and Howard. An indoor sport and weather matters? Really? That whole weather argument against Chicago is a load of [expletive].

Do you live in Chicago in the winter? It sucks. This year is basically as good as it has ever been and its still in the 30s every day. Living in that climate isn't appealing to a lot of people, professional athletes included. There are plenty of people who could be more successful or make more money in Chicago or Minnesota or Canada, but they choose to live in the South due to the weather. It's not that hard to follow.

Did and looking for better weather I moved to Michigan! But, seriously, I know how shitty it can get, remember using snowdrifts in '79 to get on the roof of the parents garage.

I believe FA's go were the money is, I don't believe weather was ever a factor in Wade', James' and Bosh' choice to sign with Miami.

Obviously if you have a shot at Howard you take him, but Bernstein is such a moron its hard to agree with him even when he is right.

If Bernstein' the moron what does that make Boers? The guy never has an original thought, all he does is regurgitate whatever Bernstein says.

Yea obviously Boers is a complete idiot, but thats his brand (and for some reason) appears to work for him. Bernstein's brand is acting like a 50 year old whiney but precocious child. He began talking about basketball like a year and a half ago and now appears to think hes an expert. I remember at one point after a run of exceptional derrick rose games he began overhyping him and said you cant compare him to Dwayne Wade because "Wade doesnt have rose's physical strength".

Bernstein also said rose "needs to learn how to get rest while on the floor, like ray allen does". He couches all his opinions in pomposity and I hate him.

He also tries to use semi-advanced baseball stats without any comprehension of how they are formulated or how they should be applied.

I agree, there's no doubt regarding Bernstein pomposity and condescending attitude towards basketball. His sweeping statements on other subjects is irritating as well - the Bears the OL can't block. By no means do I think the OL is complete and good but, they finished 9th in rushing offense despite Forte missing some significant time so, they can run block a bit.
