All I've ever wanted is an explanation for the ridiculous amount of Cubs/Packers fans out there. Perhaps it's largely due to the Bears being atrocious in the 90s, which in turn makes some of these fans bandwagoners. Right?

Uh no. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but now live in Chicago.

 

BTW, I am barred from needling Bears fans in the Bears game thread, but Bears fans can needle Packers fans in this thread? Double standard anyone?

I have had Bears/Cardinals fans ask me how I can be a Cubs/Packers fan which is kind of strange and ironic.

 

I don't think I've ever met one Bears/Cardinals fan. Perhaps they're mostly in St. Louis and rooted for the Bears before the Rams came to town. Most Cardinals fans seem to be Chiefs fans though.

 

This is kind of what I figured. Before the Rams they had nothing, and before they had nothing, they had the football Cardinals, which was even worse. Bears/Cardinals makes some sense for central/southern Illinois.

that dude was a ginormous douche...but just so happens i have a cousin and a couple of really close friends who are bears/cards fans...doesn't seem right to me, but they are cool people...the above post is correct...we're from south-central illinois and they were bears fans due to the fact that st. louis didn't have a team when we were young.

I'd say about 75% of the Cardinal fans that I knew at SIU were also Bears fans.

My post was meant in jest. I just never understood the prevailing sentiment that because you like a team from a city, then you have to like all the other teams in all the other sports from that city as well. Fandom of one team (to me) has absolutely jack squat to do with fandom of another team in another sport.

Nothing like rooting for the Cubs plus two teams that were very good in the 80s. Always fun to meet those people. I know a guy who is a Braves/Bills fan. Early 90s much?

Yeah, that's what happens when you're from the midwest and there are no teams within 10 hours of you. It's how I ended up a Cubs fan - im just not considered a bandwagoner because the cubs have sucked my whole life. What luck!
