UPDATE (from earlier in the thread):

The smell of Kam's literally made my wife throw up.

We grabbed a booth there after the game (I stood, for obvious reasons) with some friends, just poured a pitcher, and she had to excuse herself.

And she's the Illinois grad.

Suprised more people aren't talking about the fact that Matt Barkley put up superior numbers against the same defense than "The annointed one" , Andrew Luck

Why would you be surprised at that?

Oh [expletive] it, they just showed a ND player getting his knee blown up on the news without warning. Jerks.

Yeah, that was really bad. ND wasn't going to beat Stanford anyway, but any thought of it probably went up in smoke now that we've only got one RB for that game. That means Kelly's going to unleash Rees, which could mean 4 or 5 INTs instead of just 1 or 2.

Why do you think ND had no shot against Stanford? I'm not sure Stanford is all that great.

They don't have to be. Rees hasn't improved in the slightest, despite playing well into the 4th in almost every game. Kelly must have banked on him improving throughout the year and it just hasn't happened. Teams drop 8-9 guys and make him throw into coverage b/c he can't run, can't zip the ball, and can't throw deep.

Gray (guy who blew out his knee) had outperformed Wood for about 8 weeks and gave ND 2 quality RBs. Now we have a junior and 2 true freshman at RB. It's not going to be pretty.

Doesn't matter. At either 8 or 9 wins, ND is going to the Champs Sports bowl.

stupid OU. I really don't want an SEC rematch.

Why not?

For me it's SEC fatigue, with the SEC winning the last 5 titles. Plus Alabama won't even participate in their conferences title game much less win it, so it's weird that they might win the title anyways.

It's pretty amazing, but I think Oklahoma State still controls its own destiny. They're fifth in the AP (I know it doesn't count in the BCS but I'm listing it anyway) and sixth in the USA Today (behind Virginia Tech also). I'm guessing they'll still have the computer edge over Tech this week since the computers really liked them last week. So if they beat OU, they'll certainly jump Stanford and probably VaTech also. I still think LSU takes care of business against Arkansas so that would moveOSU up to third. If the voters do the same thing they've done in the past, they'll jump OSU over Alabama at the end of the year to avoid the title game rematch.

Of course, if OU beats OSU, then we're probably getting a rematch unless VaTech wins out and the voters would rather see them get throttled in the title game.

RE: the bolded, I'm trying to recall this ever happening that didn't involve the jumping team playing in a conference title game, and I got nothing.

OSU plays OU on the same weekend as all the championship games. If they impress I can see the jump happening. I am not sure there is going to be as much of an anti-rematch push as there was in 06 with Michigan though.

Arkansas TE Uekman was found dead in his dorm. Only 19.

Unverified report I heard was he was playing video games and had an aneurysm. Regardless of the actual cause, it's a sad situation.

If only the "Anointed One" had Robert Woods and Marqise Lee rather than some (admittedly good) TEs and a often-concussed Chris Owusu to throw to.

Yeah, because of SEC bias. In 2006 it was about adding a SEC team, this is about taking out an SEC team.

Barkley definitely has better WRs, but don't forget Luck has two future 1st round picks on his Oline. I'm just not sold that Luck is an absolute can't miss prospect.

If only Barkley had future top 5 picks on his offensive line.

I'm not trying to argue that Barkley > Luck, I'm just saying the gap between Luck and Barkly might not be as great as many think

There you go, UMFan. Mariner described it more eloquently than I would have but that's it in a nutshell.

And as for Rees, God, does ND ever need Hendrix or (more likely) Golson to take the starting job from Rees in the off-season. With him at QB, ND's ceiling is 8 or 9 wins.

Yup. I really hope Kelly is open to that because Rees will really limit their potential.

It looks like ND could get back to the teens of the BCS with a win over Stanford, but they would need a lot of craziness to get anywhere near 14. The funny thing is that the polls and computers disagree with each other so much on other teams right now that ND is 24 and 23 in the polls, 25.25 computer ranking, and yet that averages out for them to a 22nd BCS ranking.
