Who could possibly consider Carlos Martinez and Tyrell Jenkins on the same level as Shelby Miller??

Oh a Cardinals fan posing as a Cubs fan. Got it.

BA had Martinez at #18 in MLB in their mid season update. Consensus seems to be that he has better raw stuff and upside than Miller but there are concerns about his frame and he's not as polished. I didn't read that other guy's post, but saying that Martinez is on Miller's level as a prospect isn't really a stretch.

With the second half he had, I'd be shocked if anybody had Carlos Martinez anywhere near that high in their offseason lists.

Miller is a much better prospect, without a doubt.

So, we're out of a manager it seems and this guy is retired. He's also evidently really close with the best hitter of this generation. Do wed make this call or not?

If you're saying what I think you are, [expletive] no.

Random internet guy says that Francona is in STL:

Grain of salt info

Guys, I'm hearing rumors that Francona is a done deal. The framework of the deal was done before the World Series. In case you didnt know.....Francona is in St. Louis as I write this post.

source = Cardinals minor league coach

Sounds fishy to me that the framework of a deal would've been done before TLR retired.

Not when he made that decision in August and I'm pretty sure everybody involved was aware of his intentions.

Martinez is likely to come in between 25-50 and has played 1 year in the states. I'm not going to claim that Martinez is on Miller's level, because he has a much higher chance of busting, but he's very highly regarded by just about everyone. Miller, Martinez and Jenkins are all likely to be in the BA top 50 with Wong and Cox in the top 100. Matt Adams has a shot to be top 100, but shouldn't be because he's fat and doesn't walk.

Since he retired he's technically still under Cardinals control.

I don't buy it either, but he's my #1 choice.

The plot thickens as Rosenthal claims the Cards have asked for and been granted permission to interview Sandberg for the managerial position.

I thought LaRussa had been working on continuous one year deals for some reason.

He was on a 1 year deal with a mutual option. He retired, but as far as I know didn't decline the option.

You really think they will have Jenkins in their top 50?

He's got a shot. Probably shouldn't have said likely. I know Law has mentioned him in his top 50 (I know it's not BA.)

And I completely forgot about Oscar Taveras for some reason.

Cards are pretty much a lock to have 6 players in the top 100 and could have a 7th in Adams.

Cards want to talk to Sandberg, Cubs don't

In a strange twist of events, it appears Ryne Sandberg will not return to Chicago, and instead, he could manage the Cubs' top rival in 2012.

Sandberg, still under contract with the Phillies as their triple-A manager, will interview with the St. Louis Cardinals to replace the recently retired Tony La Russa. FOXSports.com was the first to report the Cardinals requested the Phillies' permission.

The Cubs fired Mike Quade on Wednesday, but new team president Theo Epstein effectively ended any speculation about Sandberg becoming a Cub again. In a statement, Epstein said Chicago's new manager "must have managerial or coaching experience at the major league level." Sandberg has neither.

Sandberg remains under contract with the Phillies although he signed only a one-year deal to manage Lehigh Valley. Phillies officials were more than pleased with the job he did, taking the IronPigs to the postseason, and want him back in 2012. But they will not stand in the way of a possible promotion for the Hall of Famer.

There still could be a spot on the Phillies' staff for Sandberg. Bench coach Pete Mackanin interviewed for the Boston managerial job. If Mackanin is hired there, the Phillies would likely promote Sandberg to the major-league staff. That is, if he doesn't already have a manager's job elsewhere.

How strange...an organization that won't stand in the way of a person getting a promotion?

odd.

Should the Cubs un-retire Ryno's number and take the flag down if he gets the Cardinal job? ;)

For beating the Cards during his playing career and destroying the franchise with a managerial career? I'd build him a statue.

I'm talking about the moment the press conference begins and he puts on the jersey.
