Phillies to re-sign Rollins...

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/phillies-to-sign-jimmy-rollins.html

The Phillies have agreed to sign Jimmy Rollins to a three-year deal with a vesting fourth year option, tweets ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

I'm brimming with anticipation to see how much they pay him.

I'm hoping for 3/40 or thereabouts with an option to push it to 52. That would be sufficiently awful.

EDIT: Looks like 3/33. Still pretty bad

Plus what Tim Brown of Yahoo called an "easy" vesting option for an extra $11 million. It looks like it's pretty likely to be a 4/44 deal, which is even worse.

Dodgers Sign John Grabow

By Tim Dierkes [December 19 at 10:43am CST]

The Dodgers signed lefty reliever John Grabow to a minor league deal, tweeted John Scanlan on Saturday. This morning, MLBTR confirmed the transaction.

Grabow, 33, was acquired by the Cubs from the Pirates in July of '09. He signed a two-year, $7.5MM extension four months later. Over those two seasons Grabow posted a 5.52 ERA, 5.9 K/9, 4.2 BB/9, and 1.4 HR/9 in 88 innings, missing time with knee and shoulder injuries.

Enjoy each other.

The Kubel deal makes no sense at all. The DBacks have a LH hitting LF who's not yet 25, just had 113 OPS+ season, won a Gold Glove and isn't yet arbitration eligible. Odd.

Oswalt appears to be willing to accept a one-year deal.

I'd be all over that.

what the hell would be the point? we're garbage next year anyway, and after the season he'll either have sucked and not be worth re-signing or good and too expensive to sign.

well, i'd be all over that if we keep garza and sign fielder.

he's definitely an interesting play for a team that is trying to win games next season, despite the fact that his k/rate took a somewhat frightening dive last year.

Well, it might appease the fanbase a bit in what they otherwise might perceive as a terrible offseason (provided the Cubs deal Garza and don't sign Fielder). Plus, you could possibly offload him to a contender mid-season and get a nice prospect or two in return.

i imagine we'd have to waaaaaay outbid everyone else in order to convince oswalt to go for that.

"hey roy! how'd you like to come play on a 65-win team for three months and then get traded wherever we feel like sending you come july?"

It depends. He's obviously not getting the interest he expected considering he was looking for a three-year deal and now is willing to accept a one-year deal. You could probably throw some incentives in there.

I say we heavily incentivize the contract with easily obtainable options turning it into a 70M contract

make sure those incentives don't kick in until after we trade him, i don't want to get stuck paying him $70M

Take it to the Marlins board.

I really, really wanted to trade for Danks and give him that contract.

Law of averages. White Sox were bound to make a good move eventually this offseason.

The only other move they made was trading Santos for a prospect. It's not like they signed Reed Johnson to a 1.5 mil deal. Besides, we're really in no position to laugh at them as I'll be shocked if they don't finish with a better record than we do unless they have a massive all out fire sale.
