Thanks for the input. I would say there's nothing that is more endearing to any online community than for 2 of your first 4 post to criticize board rules/methods, mods, and the mentality of the community. It usually really fosters friendship and a sense of belonging. Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome. You set the bar high my friend. I apologize if my input may have touched a raw nerve or two. That said, as I stated previously, fresh perspective is a good thing. Attempting to snuff out constructive and sincere opinions, critical or no, is counter-productive to that end.

Be part of the solution, not a part of the problem.

The first few posts for new posters have to be approved to keep away the spambots - his were in fairly short order. Not sure what he means about being approved after posting. You can auto-notify someone when a post is approved; maybe he thought the notice meant something else or that his post had to be approved twice. ??

Not sure what people see as "fairly short order", but at 5 hours or more per post approval, it's going to be rather hard for anyone to be a part of the conversation here or to make a quick quip.

As to the Cubs fan "again" comment, really? Blood in the water for the faithful here? I was referring to a renewed sense of interest and love for the team that I have lived and died with for over 30 years. Pretty sure I'm not the only one that lost interest and refused to spend any money on the debacle that were the Cubs the last couple of years.

This board has a very clique-like mentality, afaik. It limits the amount of people wiling to post here and endure the hazing atmosphere. In turn, this limits input and diversity. Tim and the Mods would do well to try to eliminate that kind of behavior instead of protecting everyone from "spam-bots" imho. You have the ability to moderate after an offending post is made, correct? Hence the comment about a board that feels the need to moderate both before AND after the fact.

Flame on.

:hello:

Diversity... that's good stuff.

The NSBB core wants nothing to do with diversity. Around here there's only one intelligent way to look at every situation. Everything else is idiocy.

Espouse the populist view, and you'll get your back slapped. Espouse any other view, and you'll get hazed.

Hope this helps. Welcome!

The approval process is an incredibly trivial thing to complain about. I believe it only requires your first 2 posts to be approved. I'm sorry if you don't feel your posts were approved in an appropriate timeframe, but I look at them immediately when I see that particular icon on a thread. This is actually a relatively new policy. Take a look at Gateway Redbirds sometime and you'll notice they get spambots that put the mods through a bunch of work about once a week. Furthermore, it allows us to take a quick look at new users to double check they aren't duplicate accounts or previously banned posters.

Bottom line, if you can't take your first two posts potentially being delayed in order to make things much easier on the moderating team, I don't know what to tell you.

Always a class act Kyle. I really mean that.

Anyway, so do we have the best front office in the NL or what? I say yes.

To be okay with spam bots filtering through a message board, one has to recognize just how much damage they can do and how many there really are. I've seen many boards killed off by unwelcome visitors. My wife deletes dozens of bogus account registrations every day on our personal message board.

The post approval process is a good one, even if all of the mods were slow to get yours approved.

What software do you use for your personal message board?

I'm telling if you have VB4 with free plugin called vbStopForumSpam you won't get spam. We maybe get 7-8 spammers a year. At most.

Doesn't matter. We are phasing out that particular board. Our parent company is managing a new one that we just started. We don't have to mess with any of that stuff anymore. But thanks for the suggestions.

Not a problem. Just thought I'd throw it out there

1. I love this thread

2. I don't know if we have the best front office in the NL, but I do know we have the best owner, President, and future GM in my lifetime. I'm satisfied with that

3. Conky, welcome, grow some calluses, and put your big boy pants on.

Ah. So, it's basically the same as saying "grow some balls" or "get some stones" right?

I'm not sure, but I bet there's an elastic waistband involved.

Made of the same material as jeans and only slightly longer than regular shorts? Does that count?

If the shins are exposed those are not big boy pants. Those are "urban" shorts.

So it has nothing to do with ones weight? It's the length of the pants. What does it matter if Conky has big boy pants or not? Why would you care?
