And somehow Rosenbloom will spin this into Ricketts being a starry-eyed neophyte fumbling around in naivete.

Really, any people who have trashed on Tom Ricketts for not doing enough are due to eat a titanic helping of crow. Can you imagine now if he had canned Jimbo months ago (like many wanted) and hired whoever was available?

yeah, everyone who bitched about going on a safari or wrang their hands about possibly hiring chuck lamar or ned colletti or worried that the cubs would be going back to an $80-90m payroll should feel like a fool. ricketts absolutely gets it. there's a reason that he's enamored with the red sox - 10 years ago they had gone forever without winning a world series, had a huge market and fan base, an iconic but aging ballpark, and a history of incompetent management and personnel decisions. the red sox were always a big market team but weren't the cash cow they are today until they started experiencing regular success.

ricketts knows that the way to build the cubs is to build from within, improving the procurement of amateur talent and filling the holes with trades and free agent signings. putting some work into wrigley will improve it aesthetically and allow the cubs to create new revenue streams. time for the sleeping giant to wake up.

In other words he has common sense.

Who was that [expletive] going on about the safari here? Was it Godzillavs.KingKong? Sounds like something he would do. Let's wail on him just to be safe.

Hawk4Hall was constantly going on about Ricketts. JeffH, too. J.R. was on about the safari and the Toyota sign quite a bit, iirc.

You've been waiting for this call out for a while haven't you?

No, I just have a really good memory.

But given the circumstances, I don't mind pointing some people out.

Calling myself out before I get called out, I was briefly worried that Randy Bush would somehow pull a Quade and go from Interim to 4Realz.

I am unworthy, Mr. Ricketts. I mean, we all are unworthy, but me especially so. I will flog myself in penance tonight.

I fully predict this thread will be linked to by rival teams boards if Theo does in fact fail. Hello White Sox Interactive 2016.

He's not gonna fail.

When he doesn't fail, this thread will die a slow death.

i don't think hawk4hall was involved too much. j.r. was definitely the lead complainer about the safari. jeffh just complains about everything, and since he apparently thought hendry was the anti-Christ, it's not surprising that he got mad at ricketts when hendry was retained last offseason.

Hawk4Hall wasn't one of the safari mob, but he was one of the most prominent Ricketts bashers this past season.

In terms of MLB overall, I think credit has to be given to Jon Daniels and his team with the Rangers right now. Both Levine and Preller are considered GM material, and they have John Hart in there helping them.

The Rays group is up there as well, with Friedman/Hunsicker/Harrison and so forth.

That said, in terms of the NL ... I can't think of another FO that I really like better than this current troika.

Can someone explain the thread title to me? I'm guessing it's a rhetorical question.

If this wasn't the best FO in all of sports, why would Ricketts have assembled it?

New thread: Is the sun hotter than my yogurt? poptart?

Ricketts deserves all the more credit considering he enticed Theo and the guys to come to the supposed backwoods sports wasteland of the Midwest as opposed to the East Coasts and SoCal. Particularly attracting Theo from Boston, the mecca of all things amazing, where everyone is offered free daily unicorn rides to work. Especially since the Cubs farm system isn't projected to provide a major league ready player until 2028, while Boston's farm system is stocked to the gills in future Hall of Famers.

Hell of a sales job by Ricketts.

I apologize for anything critical I ever posted about Tom Ricketts. After all those years of the Tribune I had a natural distrust of Cubs ownership.

I'm super excited. I hope Ricketts is pretty hands-off and just writes the checks and lets Theo do his thing.

It takes a real man to admit it. Congrats and other posters take note. Classy move Erik.

Ugh, you're somehow even outdoing O_O.

Boobies?

But that was pretty cool of him for admitting he overratacting and made a mistake. I know this is foreign to you, but it is what it is.
