One of my favorite Cubs ever (though short lived), Todd Walkahhh talks about Theo

http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7096345/todd-walker-said-theo-epstein-succeed-chicago-cubs-gm

When you brought up the '04 team, I looked for the Todd Walker superman slide, but couldn't find it. Anybody have it handy? Such an awesome moment.

Followed by Chip Caray saying "The Cubs have come all the way back!!!!!!" even though they were only down 2-1 going into the inning.

Also, remember when Macias tried to duplicate the Walker slide and failed miserably?

Comcast Sportsnet Central just mentioned that WCVB in Boston is reporting that the Cubs and Red Sox have agreed on the number of Red Sox employees that Epstein can bring w/ him. No names or numbers were given nor has the compensation been agreed to yet.

Don't know if this has been posted yet in this colossal thread:
BOSTON -- By all appearances, according to a Red Sox team source, it remained business as usual on Yawkey Way as of Thursday afternoon. The general manager, Theo Epstein, was in his office, and his coterie of assistants, including GM-in-waiting Ben Cherington, remained engaged in their normal duties, which in Cherington's case is first and foremost heading up the team's search for a new manager.

So far, according to the source, Epstein has yet to inform most of his staff whether he is headed to the Chicago Cubs to take over their baseball operations, despite widespread reports that he has accepted a five-year deal to relocate. The Cubs and Red Sox must still work out what compensation the Red Sox will receive for allowing Epstein out of the final year of his contract, and there is also the matter of which aides Epstein will be allowed to take with him.

I think it is a joke how pathetic the Red Sox have been with leaks throughout this process. Ricketts on the other hand has remained cool and calm. This is going to get done, and Ricketts has gained a ton of respect in the process.

Huh. You'd think who he could take would be more important than how many. Oh well.

After it's all over, there's gonna be a lottery to see who Theo gets to take with him.

Has there been a single leak from the Cubs side of things? All the reports seem to come from Boston's side.

That was posted earlier. "Not well" likely means "the Red Sox asked for too much and the Cubs said no."

Pretty much seems like the Sox are trying to scare the Cubs through the public to do something stupid, which is pretty much what has been said. I doubt it works as judging by the way Ricketts has handled things, I doubt he can be intimidated that way.

if the number is 5, hopefully he takes gonzalez, lester, ellsbury, pedroia and buchholz.

They will take LaHair and only LaHair and they'll like it.

Theo Epstein thought enough of Carlos Pena five years ago to sign him with the Red Sox organization. Does he think enough of Pena now to keep the pending free agent in a Cubs uniform next year?

Pena, for one, thinks the hiring of Epstein as the Cubs’ next GM bodes well for his chances.

“No doubt,’’ said Pena, who hit just .225 in his only season as the Cubs’ first baseman — but whose 101 walks, .357 on-base percentage and left-handed power provided unique value to a mostly free-swinging lineup.

“He is the type of person I definitely appreciate and a professional that I appreciate,’’ added Pena, who played 11 games for Boston’s Class AAA team in August before finishing that 2006 season with the Red Sox. “Even playing against him so many years [for Tampa Bay in 2007-10], and playing for him briefly in 2006, I’ve got nothing but good things to say about Theo.

“I’m excited. I’m excited about the ballclub.’’

Keith Law knows best!

Scott (St. Louis )

Klaw, surely Brett Jackson (as has been rumored) is too much compensation to give up for Theo Epstein. Would you even consider that?

Klaw (1:22 PM)

Yes. If you think Theo is going to turn this organization around, you wouldn't give up six years of a non-star prospect?

If Szczur is Pierre, that makes Jackson, what, Jacque Jones? Todd Hollandsworth?
