I still think it's going to be hilarious when Kaplan realizes just what Theo & Co. are all about. He probably gets a stiffy thinking about Dustin Pedroia, Youk, the Eckstein thing and the rings, but doesn't really understand the method.

When he realizes Theo doesn't give a [expletive] about grit and doesn't place a premium on hustle, his head is going to explode (or implode). He'll probably feel bamboozled. Violated, even.

It's also amazing how thin his skin is.

I don't know if I'd go so far to say he doesn't care about them. I think it's just that he properly values them.

He might pass on a potential draft pick because it doesn't seem like he'll work hard enough to get better. He just won't deify Ryan Theriot over Aramis Ramirez.

I said he doesn't put a premium on them, not that he didn't care about them. I'd be willing to bet grit and hustle wouldn't be near the top of Theo Epstein's desirable player attributes list.

Let's not forget the man who made this happen

Here's to you, Robert Andino!

I think Theo would be a Cub even if Boston was in the playoffs. He wanted out even when they had the best record in baseball pre-September meltdown.

I can't wait for the press conference and all the future radio interviews where he talks about stats and blows the mindholes of the Chicago media meatballs

He actually doesn't talk about stats that much.

I guess the Red Sox finally figured out it wasn't going to be all that smart to pay Theo 7 mill next year while he's sitting around throwing paper airplanes in the office.

I'm guessing that the fact that, to keep him, they actually had to live up to the terms of the contract (i.e. he's the actual GM) kind of had something to do with this. That and Bud pushing them through the doorway.

In the two interviews of him I've heard (youtube clips of which have been posted), he spoke more about stats than Jim Hendry did in nearly a decade.

okay...I might have to skip work to attend the press conference. :D

Tim, Tom and Theo in the same room - are you sure the world is ready for that?

I'm talking stuff like this. Chicago Media =

I can't wait to hear Kaplan get statistically dominated by Theo

Bernstein and Theo would make for a good conversation.

Ricketts gave us all some pretty big hints when he said he wanted to model us after the Red Sox. Guess he wasn't kidding, huh?

You guys should see my bandwidth package right now

ok ssr

I'm still pissed nobody reacted to my line about Theo ejaculating on me.

Eh. Too predictable. You should've gone with the urination on you.

The absolutely most awesome amazing thing about this is that we have an owner and management group that will be actually pursuing a defined, long-term strategy for success. I cannot believe what I'm seeing. I have read every page of this thread (been lurking for a while) and have enjoyed every minute - even the silly bits and the insane posts from the SOSH guys.

On the issue of compensation, I'd be willing to bet that the teams have agreed to a form of binding arbitration. I believe that this most likely favors the Cubs, but it also allows Henry and co. to save a bit of face (if they have any honor left) with their fans. When they end up not getting major league ready (or close to it talent) they will be able to blame MLB and do the whole 'us against the world'-'chip on the shoulder' bit. It's a cynical strategy, but it's very effective when dealing with a tribal mentality.

The Padres have a pre-agreed list of Cubs players to choose from as compensation and no other employees will be taken

Hopefully theres nothing better than Evan Crawford or Grahem Hicks on that list.

I actually am a bit intrigued with Hicks, depending on what his health status is. Projectable young lefties with starting potential always hold a level of intrigue. On the other hand, Crawford looks like a system guy.

My guess is that the list will be some low level talent, which is dangerous considering that's where the talent intrigue is right now, but it's something you live with. I could see them go after arms.

I could also see Hoyer/McLeod getting Theo to consider a trade for Chase Headley. They have enough third base options that are ready and in the upper levels such that, if we don't bring Aramis back, Chase could be an intriguing option.

Todays not about you Ryan. Todays about Theo and Tom.

I don't agree with this. If you have been reading the interviews from Hoyer and Theo, they do seem to care quite a bit about player makeup.

The sad thing is that the average meatball Cubs fan will turn on Ricketts, Theo, and Hoyer when the Cubs don't instantly turn into the Red Sox.

That's not sad; it's the fan equivalent of finding out someone you're kind of friends with is a douchebag because they go nuts and start being a racist on Facebook. This will help clarify even more who should be shunned and mocked.
