All I heard was Drinky saying he saw the Edes tweet. There was something else?

I'm not sure how the sox can make Theo sit out a year. He's their GM. They can't just sit him on the bench like a grumpy slugger.

I also can't imagine him going back to work there either. That's why I think it will happen. It will take as much time as Henry can drag out of Ricketts. It's a huge PR mess for them. Dragging this thing out is about the only face saving gesture they can do at this point. After it's over they will sling mud on Ricketts and Theo and hope the masses buy it all.

I mean legally they can't keep him under contract and prevent him from fulfilling his duties. I assume his contract gives him pretty broad baseball decision authority that they'd need someone to use. They can't just usurp that without letting him go one way or another.

The Red Sox have always operated their front office by committee approach. They can, and have when Theo resigned in 2005, operate their front office with one leg missing from the stool. That's why it's fuzzy who is to blame for all those putrid contracts.

They can just relegate Theo to the basement with a stapler for the next 12 months, like Milton from Office Space, if they want to while Cherrington does all the GM work. I don't know why they would when there is 6.5 million on the books and they can get compensation for him today, but it's not the first time upper management in a business has done something dumb/petty when huge egos and pride get involved.

Yeah I doubt that's true. That's called breach of contract.

Agreed. Again, NEITHER side can breach a contract. Theo can't decide to just not show up (or show up and not work) and the Sox can't have him doing anything but his contractual obligations (GM'ing).

It does! I have a great time here.

Perhaps someone could throw together an FAQ and put it in the original post? That way if someone asks a question that has been "asked a million times" (give or take), they can be directed to the FAQ in the OP. Just seems like it would make things easier on everyone and cut down on a lot of the repetition.

Not only will you not check any of the dozens of news sources but you suggest that someone else summarize everything for you in a neat little FAQ section?

Wow. Hostile much?

The tone of my post was not just for me, but for all people, seeing as you said my question was answered "a million times already", and seeing as I only asked it once... you do the math. I apparently wasn't the only one to ask the question, and this would give an easy outlet to EVERYONE, not just me.

Calm down. Take some deep breaths, and go to your happy place. Think positive thoughts. (yes, I understand the irony here)

Breaking again:

Gordon Edes

@Gordon Edes

It's done. According to source: Hoyer to join Theo as GM of Cubs, Brynes new GM in SD.

:yahoo:

This is [expletive] phrasing... is he reporting that Hoyer to Chicago is a green light as soon as the Theo deal is done or that Theo to Chicago is a green light and as a result Hoyer is as well?

NO, DONE! Score just commented on it as well.

I heard him say that he just got off the phone with a Boston source. Could have heard wrong but that is what I heard.

Selig has the power to strip the Boston owners of the franchise on a whim, and they likely signed an agreement when they bought the team that they wouldn't ever sue him, even if he did that.

He has broad powers. He may not want to use them, but he definitely has nearly infinite power within baseball.

I don't think that is correct. He works at the pleasure of the owners. I don't think the rest of the owners would take kindly to Bud siding with one party or the other like that. There is no "best interest of baseball clause here". This is a discussion among two members of the club.

Whether you think it or not, this really is correct. He has the authority to say tomorrow "I find that Epstein going to the Cubs is in the best interests of baseball, and if you don't do it, I will revoke your franchise."

It's the ultimate nuclear option, because it torches franchise value and the owners would vote to fire him the next day, but it's still within his authority.

Show me where it says he can do that.

Are you disputing that the "best interests of baseball" clause exists? Otherwise, I'm not sure what your argument is.

No, I'm not disputing that. Selig just used it because McCourt is running the Dodgers into the ground. What I'm saying is that it does not apply here. This is a simple trade negotiation between two members of the club. If one side is being obstinate the Commissioner has no authority to make that side be reasonable. It goes well beyond his job. He can bitch about it and say come on boys lets be reasonable here, but his job is to speak for all the owners. If he sides with the Red Sox or Cubs imagine what would happen. The other owners would not stand for it.

I'm rarely hostile and not now. Your asking others to spend time making your life easy when you can't be bothered to check Cot's for a GM's contract status is annoying.

I'd update the thread title if I knew WTF is going on.

I don't think anyone knows what's going on, including Theo.

THEO knows all.

Yeah, it's been posted 3 times, but it's still very confusing. What's done? Hoyer? Or Theo? Or both?

You did answer, but you acted all put out by it, so THEN I responded with a smart-ass remark.

The FAQ suggestion was legit though. However, if the mods don't want to do it, that's fine. Just a suggestion.

Did he step in on the A-Rod trade or was that the players' union? I'm pretty sure he's denied some trade in the past 5 years or so.
