I just spoke with two excellent sources on Epstein negotiations and it appears deal is basically done with announcement of agreement tmrw.

Are they really going to let the Cubs announce this tomorrow? I doubt it.

Ricketts was introduced as the chairman of the Cubs on October 31, 2009.

Same day as Game 3 of the World Series.

Nobody outside of Chicago knew who the hell Ricketts was. To most, He was basically just another billiomaire buying a sports team. This is huge. Epstein is one of the most well known, recognizeable, and highly regarded non player personel in the game.

Jesus Christ a game 3 was on Halloween one year? That's just sad.

Hopefully, everyone will know it's coming by tomorrow. For sure.

They'll delay the official announcement until Friday to keep up with appearances.

I think that's our best-case scenario. I hope it goes down that way. I'll be on my way to tropical climates on Friday. It would be a *great* sendoff.

Holy God, we're getting Theo and we're getting a Theo disciple.

I don't even care that it's Theo specifically, the fact that we're getting two guys in that school, and we're getting a brain trust that knows their [expletive]...

holy crap, this is awesome.

"Cubs" and "brain trust that knows their [expletive]" have been mutually exclusive in my lifetime--until now! Woohoo!

Somebody becoming the owner of the Chicago Cubs is pretty big [expletive] news, man.

Just looked it up. The PC with Ricketts was on October 30, 2009, an off day between games 2 and 3 of the World Series.

Either way, the news can easily come out tomorrow without any "official" announcement. Press conference can be held on the off day, Friday.

But not the kind that would have made the World Series take a back seat. Maybe if it had been Mark Cuban, that would have been that type of a story. Besides, the 2009 Series was Phillies/Yankees and didn't have to worry about Laverne & Shirley re-runs on TV Land beating it in the ratings.

The name Al Yellon takes me way back. Holy [expletive]. I knew he ran that blog but I rarely read it. Anyway, I remember him from the alt.sports.baseball.chicago-cubs newsgroups back in the day. I know a lot of posters here came from espn.com and cubs.com (I visited both before NSBB), but did any of you guys visit those newsgroups or the AOL cubs message board back then?

The last two years when many thought he was being a crappy owner he was just letting the team purge itself. Amazing brain trust (almost) in place and they are going to have only 2 years of Soriano after this season inherited.
