I can confirm that there was nobody throwing feces at each other in the negotiations, therefore my source characterized things as "going well", unless something changes.

@SIJonHeyman My sources confirm that feces may not or may have been thrown during negotiations today.

I usually like Gammons but I just read what he wrote...Bottom 3 my nuts.

I'm getting bored of this Epstein hunt. There's almost a half dozen guys I wouldn't mind seeing as the next GM...

It's not a hunt.

People need to stop acting like there's more than a 1% chance of Epstein actually not being in the Cubs' employ very soon.

And you probably will see a different guy as the next GM.

They were supposedly progressing well the other day, then all of a sudden there's a "stalemate", so that mean's tonight well hear the Red Sox are still " holding their ground" or some [expletive].

I sent BA an email just for the heck of it, asking about general system placement and where McNutt would rank. Since I didn't ask them for the right to post their reply, I'll simply paraphrase and say that Callis said we're more middle of the pack, and McNutt would be top 10 in the Sox system. Someone should uh ... let Gammons know.

Someone (?) tweeted him the same question:

jimcallisBA Jim Callis

Closer to middle of pack than bottom three. @jdfisch: @pgammo said #cubs have a bottom three farm system. That cant be possibly true is it?

It's more than 1%. I like the whole Pres of Baseball Operations thing with his own GM but...even then he's not the only guy THAT can happen to (Beane and Cashman instantly come to mind...maybe even the pup that is Friedman). This was reported as done almost 10 days ago...It's not...The fact that they're still trying makes me think he'll be here, but the room for a but is still there because it's not done.

If Crane Kenney is involved in negotiations that is probably not a bad thing. Of all the employees of the Cubs he's probably the most qualified to negotiate something. He can utlize all the input from the other Cubs employees as far as rating their own prospects.

Talks hit a snag when Luccino turned his sites from Trey McNutt and demanded mid '90s-early '00s Sammy Sosa and healthy 22 year old Mark Prior.

Kevin Goldstein:

Respectfully disagree. RT @xnappax: @Kevin_Goldstein Gammons said McNutt would probably not be in the top 20 for Red Sox prospects. True?

Both; Sox system is down. RT @BleacherNation: @Kevin_Goldstein Does that say more about your opinion of McNutt or of Red Sox system?

I have zero followers. I just use twitter to yell at sportswriters, and ask them questions they'll never respond to. It's basically a tool for shouting at the moon.

That is a step in the right direction for Lucchino.

Once again, I marvel at the Red Sox' ability to get local media to carry water for them. I've really seen nothing like it in all of professional sports.

The hunt is over. Now it's negotiations. We have no idea what's really going on in those. For all we know, they've long since moved on from McNutt, maybe even decided on the compensation.

I don't see why people assume that the minute the negotiations are complete Ricketts is going to rush to Twitter or the nearest sportwriter. With the World Series beginning today, I wouldn't be surprised if Selig is making them hold off on any announcements.

If we've learned anything over the past several months, Ricketts is a [expletive] ninja and no one other than him and one or two others within the Cubs organization knows anything.

I really hope we get an emotional Gammons on MLB Tonight following the trade going down a la his hissy fit when Swisher struck out Gabe Kapler.

i am going to go ahead and pencil you in as on team aneurysm
