So does this mean that, once official, Ricketts starts getting the Geovany Soto treatment?

Does he start getting his eyebrows waxed? Hmm... Yeah I could see it.

I wish Laura's posts had a like button.

I wish she had her own thread for actual news that the rest of us could't gum it up with our rehashing and analysis.

Yeah, stupid talking baseball on a baseball site.

How dare he not want to wade through countless pages of your deeply fascinating baseball discussions for actual news.

That's a rough life.

The thread title changes when the news actually changes.

meh, we can just adopt that crummy Eddie Vedar song

I say we just give the Red Sox Eddie Vedder altogether.

You poor darlings.

Stop. I have no problem with the ongoing discussion. I just wish there was a seperate thread for just breaking news so that when there were new posts we could get right to it.

I think the "average" player puts up something like a 2 WAR.

ok, the last 2 years he's been 4.4

What about the last three years?

how about 4?

Last 4 years, a 4.2 combined WAR. Last 5 years, a combined 7.8, Last 6 years, 13.5.

So if you want to say that over the last 6 seasons, Soriano produced more than the average player has, then you'd be correct, even if 42% of that production came in the one year he wasn't on the Cubs.

So PM the staff and ask them to do so. It would take them 5 seconds to create a news thread that only they can post in. In the meantime quit bitching about people posting about baseball in an open baseball thread.

I certainly questioned Ricketts after the 2010 draft. Didn't many changes elsewhere til some of the contracts were gone. In fact, after that draft, I was scared. But, it really looks like he was truly just getting his feet wet and has certainly turned me into an excited Cubs fan again. Rome wasn't built in a day, but the longterm approach that being taken is absolutely phenomenal. Big spending in the 2011 draft and on IFA, firing Hendry, the commitment to the Dominican complex, now this? Unreal. :yahoo:

Maybe he was going by Fangraphs? They have him at 4.4 the last two seasons, 8.5 the last 4 and 20.8 the last 6.

Last thought of speculation from me until this all becomes official.

If Tom Ricketts made the Cubs organization going forward sound like a better place to be for Theo Epstein than the Red Sox, despite Theo's dream job being GM for the Red Sox, that makes me really excited about the Cubs organization going forward.

Also...

Heres an idea for fair compensation if they insist on a player: Marlon Byrd. He's not that expensive, not part of our post 2012 plans, and while there would be some interest in him for trade, nothing great. For the Red Sox, he'd be a cheap option for RF, and could platoon with Josh Reddick without doing what they usually do and sign another 10mil/year free agent. While he has no business at the heart of any lineup, when your the Red Sox, he's a great option for 7-8.

I just giggled. At work.

Also, Colin Cowherd is actually making some sense for once. He says its a great opportunity, great city, great fan base, and that the team can win - and now. Of course, Dempster is about to come on, so he may just be sucking up for his guest.

Hey why talk about theo effing epstein when we can all nitpick each other to death about whether the cubs have 4 average ballplayers or 5 average ballplayers.

this really was completely clear in your first post.

i’m still having a hard time accepting that i will be able to associate competence, modernity, and hotness with the CUBS. i need an official confirmation.

Lets keep this thread to discuss Theo and any news. If you'd like to discuss players, their abilities, and whether we should keep them or not, someone just started a new thread. Don't [expletive] on our first Christmas in years.

Sure....there are plenty of head shops down Clark Street. I'll find him a nice bong as a reward for his fine work.

Or we could just reopen the old thread for general discussions and such.

So...

I wonder if Epstein will be sort of a Ricketts, where He takes a year to get a feel for everything.

Or if He'll come in and start sending trades flying everywhere to rebuild the team in His image.

i was. even with a pitiful year in 09, he's still above average overall.
