"When you've got your best player -- he's your best hitter, we've watched it for years now -- and you can't seem to have a positive effect on the guys around you in your clubhouse, getting them to step up or play to a different level, it's just hard for me to swallow, especially when you're being paid to be that guy," Hollandsworth told "The McNeil and Spiegel Show" on WSCR-AM 670.

"Then you bring into question effort and that's one thing in the game of baseball that really is inexcusable. One hundred percent effort all the time, there's really no reason for you not to have 100 percent effort. He's got impressionable kids around him right now: Darwin Barney, Starlin Castro, these kids are growing up, they're watching it and you know what, they're not getting any better."

In regards to Ramirez not wanting to waive his NTC:

"It's going to be another 100 years before this team wins another (World Series) if they continue to let the inmates run it," Hollandsworth said.

I've never really liked Hollandsworth but this makes it real easy to not watch or listen to any show when he is on it. Hey Holly, do you ever watch the Cardinals play? Pujols and Molina jog to first base all the time on routine plays. Are they lazy or do they realize their importance to the team is playing everyday by not getting hurt sprinting to first base to make meatballs like you happy?

Hmm, and here I thought Castro was getting better all the time. Silly, stupid, inept me.

Castro was a bad example, but April's rookie of the month has slowly been suffering from the stench of the lazy inmates. If you don't blame Barney's non-superstardom on Ramirez, you don't watch baseball.

damn you, ramirez, why can't you get all your shitty teammates to play at a different level? a REAL leader would have made koyie hill not suck at baseball.

YOU'RE BEING PAID TO USE THESE MAGIC POWERS.

It's a 10-5, not an NTC. By Hollandsworth's logic, no team with a 10-5 player will win a WS for another 100 years.

I've hated him for a long time and this just adds to the list.

He's all about the rah-rah and the grit and small ball and all that other nonsense.

Considering the numbers he put up over his career, it's no surprise he advocates the standard intangibles that only the MLB-experienced would understand.

And he was a terrible to mediocre baseball player.

What a douche bag.

Edit: He made players around him better by getting benched. After he was benched in 03 in favor of Miguel Cabrerra the Marlins went on their winning streak. Best team in baseball when he was picking splinters out of his ass.

SCREW THAT GUY FOR HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME!!

It's not different, it is moronic and irresponsible.

SCREW THAT GUY FOR HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN ME!! getting paid to pollute airwaves with overly simplistic opinions that, rather than providing any benefit/insight or having any element of truth, serve only to propagate widespread meatheaded discourse.

I'm assuming this is what you meant.

This isn't going to change my view on hollandsworth one bit. I like him and he is a deep down cubs fan. He's angry just like anyone else, because he wants the team to be better. You can lash out at the wrong people some times when you are angry. He should be lashing out at Hendry but I guess it's easier to lash out at a player instead of the guy at the top.

Anger or not, Cubs fan or not - if he's capable of dwelling on that thought long enough to form it into complete sentences and spit it out on the air, he's too stupid to share his opinions on baseball for a living.

He's not a deep down cubs fan. He's a former player who realizes he's got 30-50 years of life to live and not many ways to earn a living other than talking about baseball. He sees an opportunity to ingratiate himself to idiot fans who like to believe the sort of nonsense he can spout off.

That isn't an opinion. That's an unsubstantiated attack on a guy who is a much better player than Hollandsworth ever was, when that player has nothing to gain from defending himself.

The fact remains, while I would like to see Aramis next year, assuming they build a winner, if they decide that he won't be back, they probably have decided already, in which case they should be pushing for a trade. He should get us one of some teams top 10 prospects, and if anyones desperate enough, a top 100.

In what way is that a fact that remains?
