To play where? 1st with Butler to DH?

Yeah, he'll be starting at first. Butler has been DHing pretty much the entire season with Kila Ka'aihue getting much of the playing time there (Gordon and Betemit getting a bit too).

Kila was sent down with this move, and I know a lot of people on this board are fans of his. He could probably be picked up pretty cheap at this point. Of course, he's only batting .200 or so with 2 homers in somewhere around 100 ABs.

I could be completely wrong here, but I dont get why people think that Kila Kawhatever is anything more than somebody elses Micah Hoffpauir/Jake Fox/Bryan LaHair/Brad Snyder/etc. Sure, if the need arrises, youd prefer to call one of these guys up rather than go out and sign some retread, but theres no reason to go out of the way to aquire a guy like that.

It's probably because he has a cool Hawaiian name.

Or that he got on base like 80% of the time in the minors

So what's the timetable on the rest of the Royals prospects coming to the majors?

Afer June 1st for sure. This move is gonna cost them a lot of money, but they had to do it. Eric was hitting .439. I imagine Duffy is next.

Pretty impressed that Hosmer beat Moustakas up here. Great start to his 2011.

This would be the time to do it. The Indians are better than everyone thought, but arent likely to keep up their pace. The White Sox and Twins are burying themselves, so that division is very winnable, and the Royals can own it for the next 3-5 years, or whenever these guys start heading to New York and Boston.

Pretty excited to see what these guys can do, I've seen them play quite a lot in the minors.

I'm so glad that KC is not in the division. Imagine

If the Cubs had three Brett Jacksons and four lefty McNutts.

Most of the guys they have we could have had if we were willing to spend big on the draft. Hopefully Ricketts will be willing to do so.

take nothing away from the royals - they've done great to go well above slot to grab talents like myers, crow, dwyer, hosmer, etc, but they've also had the advantage of being consistently lousy and drafting at the front of each round. players like hosmer, moustakas and crow were not available when we were drafting.

plus even their slot picks have had an above-average number of hits lately. they're doing the draft right... cubs are not.

When you have a top 5 pick pretty much every year, your bound to put a team together eventually. See Rays, Tampa Bay.

I get missing on the top guys, we had no chance to get them. But it would be nice to sign the great player everyone loves but dropped due to signability. Zack Lee for example last year, instead it seems we are hell bent on doing things our own way.

Not surprised by this move. Am glad that Hosmer finally got called up. It is time, because he just have been tearing it up in Omaha. It would have been comical just to keep him down in Omaha.

And as far as Kila is concerned, he might suck; he might not. I'm not 100 percent sure.

But he had an opportunity, a fair and extended opportunity, and he bombed.

I'm still suprised. This is gonna cost them a lot of money when they could have just waited another few weeks.

they've had Upton, Longoria and Price as top picks contributing

ok, now explain away everybody else

They said the same thing about us back in 2000.

These guys aren't all gonna stick.

And we won a good division 4 times during the 2000s

I would put Rocco Baldelli in that group. He contributed in his first 3 years, but his health is what ended him eventually. Carl Crawford was a 2nd round pick, but I would consider him as well.

Our top picks have been pretty terrible for years now. I'd really like to see management and scouts turned over in the next couple years. We have done terrible things with our higher picks.

Since Tim Wilken took over as scouting director in December of 2005 our top picks have been:

2006: Tyler Colvin

2007: Josh Vitters

2008: Andrew Cashner

2009: Brett Jackson

2010: Hayden Simpson

Two of those have reached the majors, one is generally considered our top prospect (Jackson), one is still ranked in the top 5 of the Cubs' system (Vitters) and one has been slowed by illnesses and it's still far too early to tell (Simpson). Opinions on these guys vary, but to call them "terrible" is a bit of an overstatement.
