I can think of few things in life that are as sad as a baseball game rained out.
being swept in the first round of the post season?

That really hurt, no question, but I don't think of it as sad, looking back.

Cubs.com has Garza starting Game 1 tomorrow...

Have the best seats I've ever purchased for the early game tomorrow, Dugout seats Row 2 behind home plate. Spending the holiday out in style.

Look for Reed Johnson to get the start today.

Fukudome's wife is having a baby.

with a Cincinatti loss and a Chicago win, Cubs can be tied for the Division lead.

On the glass-half-empty side, the Cubs are also in striking distance of fifth place.

On the glass-is-still-brand-new side, the season is 2 weeks old.

The glass can be knocked off the shelf and broken, rendering it useless and unwatchable--I mean, undrinkfromable--at any point in its six-month life-expectancy, making it an impractical purchase (if not complete waste of money and cabinet space) in the first place.

What are we talking about again?

First Cubs game of the year to be shown live on TV in Europe. :D

I'll be at volleyball practice though, so I'll have to record it.

Yeah I've been to two Cubs playoff games, both losses, and had absolutely no fun. All the beer in the world doesn't make it fun to experience the collective soul of Wrigley being torn away off the bat of James Loney, nor does being down 0-2 in the series and have some .193 hitter homer on the first pitch of the game. At least that game was like 85 degrees out though.

I'm alive but I figured I'd let CT start this thread since I was MIA a couple of days ago. He has my permission to start the nightcap thread if we're fortunate enough to win today.

Cubs Lineup:

Castro SS

Barney 2B

Byrd CF

Ramirez 3B

Pena 1B

Soriano LF

Colvin RF

Soto C

Garza P

I hate Byrd hitting 3rd. I'd rather see everyone in this lineup except for Barney there. Yes, even Colvin has been more patient that Byrd this year, and has more power. Pena's been much more patient, and I heard a rumor that he had power but who knows where that has been.

With the way Soriano's been hitting, he should be in the 3 spot until he cools off.

He seems pretty comfortable where he's at. I understand the temptation, but Soriano is a futzy player. Over his career Soriano has the second highest OPS in the six spot. He only has a higher OPS leading off, and I think we can all agree that we don't want him there right now.

Pena's power was on display last night. However, power doesn't do much good when the wind is howling in. From what I've heard, Pena absolutely crushed that ball in the 9th last night.

I remember the 1st red flag when we signed Soriano was that from the beginning, he said he doesnt feel comfortable hitting in the heart of the lineup, although he was plenty comfortable taking heart of the lineup money.

I dont have a link. I remember him saying he wanted to hit leadoff, and that he doesnt like hitting 3rd. No Aramis, on the other hand has no problem hitting 3rd, which he should be doing and we could pieve together a perfectly good 4-6 with Pena, Soriano, and Soto with Byrd and Colvin/Fukudome at 7-8. While the Cubs dont have a Pujols/Holliday or Braun/Fielder, we have a deep lineup with no easy outs.
