Granger's comments strike me as basically completely innocuous.

It doesn't matter how they strike you. It matters how they strike the Bulls, and whether they think it's a motivational tool.

If the Bulls need a motivational tool to win the series, I'd be seriously concerned about them going forward.

If this series goes beyond 4, somebody got badly injured, or the Bulls lost focus defensively.

All season Rose has found ways to get himself fired up by recalling previous defeats, or slights...similar to how MJ used to. Granger's comments are something he can use. That's all I'm saying.

Huh? The Bulls need extra motivation to win a playoff series? Against a team that they'd beat regardless? That is nonsense.

Regardless, sure, the Bulls can take any comment and use it as a motivational tool. If Granger said the Bulls were "good" -- the Bulls very well could be offended he didn't say "great." If so, that comment could then be used as a motivational tool. The original comment would still be innocuous.

Rose read those comments and immediately decided to up his shooting percentage to 44% on just 33 shots per game.

Like Rose knows how to read.

If anything, Granger should be trying to demotivate the Bulls. If I were Granger, this is what I'd say:

"Holy crap, we've gotta play the Bulls? Oh man, I am pretty scared. Not only of losing the series, but losing embarrassingly. They are easily the best team in the NBA and could beat us 4 on 5 without a doubt. I seriously am not looking forward to playing them because I know they will show us no mercy and shred us to pieces, making it hard to go home to our wives and kids. How am I going to be able to look my wife in the eye after getting humiliated at the hands of the Bulls?"

I'm hoping it motivates Rose to show that there's more to the team than just him by passing the ball a lot!

Sure, what Granger said was not ideal. But I don't see how it was offensive to the Bulls at all. If the Bulls want to derive extra motivation from his comments, that's their prerogative; if so, they were looking/stretching for any reason.

“I’m going to go with the Celtics right now because of their experience and where they’ve been. The Bulls, they’re very talented obviously. They earned, and rightfully so, the No. 1 spot in the East. But you know, the Celtics you really never know with them. Last year everybody wrote them off, they were the No. 4 seed and they came within a few minutes of winning an NBA title. So they have guys that have been there many, many times before and they bring a lot of experience.”

This was Thib's reaction when he heard about Granger's comments regarding the Bulls:

Nothing bad about those comments, although I find it odd that these players are willing to answer that question.

It's not that I disagree with Granger.

But teams have been making a concerted effort to stop Rose all year long. It's not like all these teams have been saying, "oh hell yeah, let's just allow Rose to stop all over us."

They've been trying. And they've been failing. Good teams, too.

OK, now here's where I say something I probably shouldn't: I don't see how Indiana even competes against this Bulls team. There's no way. They would need everything to go right for a number of games, and the Bulls to just lay an egg over & over again.

I think Chicago just rag dolls that team and nobody even remembers who we played in the first round.

This isn't about whether the Bulls get past Indiana. It's about what happens when a young Bulls team finally meets the Celtics in the conference finals (the old vs. the new), or what happens when the Bulls match up against the Heat (the place Lebron went to, vs. the place he SHOULD have gone to).

You're not exactly going out on a limb there.

This is a 1 overall seed vs an 8 seed. There's nothing about that that you "shouldn't" have said.

the good thing for the bulls is that he's too stupid to let it go to his head

I know. I usually try to stay away from sweeping statements like that, but to hell with it.

I'm hearing people being really cautious about this Bulls team, and I while I understand it to a degree, I don't think it applies to the Indiana series.
