when mizzou looks after their best interests, it's not petty (because it's millions of dollars). but when ku looks after their best interests, it's petty (because it's not millions of dollars).

Exactly.

Ha.

I don't blame MU for leaving. They're being obtuse if they think KU's approach now doesn't make sense. It's not strictly about $.

Well, it doesn't make sense, as you go on to explain...

KC is already a KU town. But there are plenty of MU and KSU fans too.

KU is a five-star program; Missouri is a second-tier school. Only in the rarest instances will they be able to outdo KU for prospects. The best prospects in the KC area are going to choose KU; Missouri being in the SEC will not change that. So really, what else qualifies as "KU's best interests" here?

Obviously they know games like that won't capture the minds of the KC locals, or they wouldn't be groveling for a shot to play us.

I've yet to see them "grovel" but OK.

It's about more than just basketball. It's about more than athletics even. The more KU can marginalize MU in KC, the better for our school. It can help enrollment, merchandise sales, general perception, etc. We'll never convert MU fans into KU fans. But people without a die-hard rooting allegiance can be pushed more toward KU. And there are lots of those in KC.

And I'm seeing plenty of begging and whining in this thread and from your administration.

I've yet to see anything close to whining in this thread about it, just laughing at how whiny Bill Self sounds. I am completely indifferent to Missouri playing KU. Missouri rarely wins, and they'll have enough issues with Kentucky twice a year.

Was just offered two seats for next week's MSU @ IU game for $200. Lower level, Row 14. Been a long time since I've purchased tickets like this. Fair price?

Now if I only had confidence IU can take the Spartans down...

$200 for 2 tickets? Meaning $100 for each one? Hell dude, I'd take it. I tried to get tickets to the Indiana-Northwestern game and I could not even get in the first 40 rows for $100 each.

I've yet to see anything close to whining in this thread about it, just laughing at how whiny Bill Self sounds. I am completely indifferent to Missouri playing KU. Missouri rarely wins, and they'll have enough issues with Kentucky twice a year.

The funny thing is, Self didn't sound whiny at all. He's very complimentary of Mizzou and says he understands their decision. Where is he whiny?

"This isn't anything about Frank. And it's certainly not anything to do about Kim English or Michael Dixon or Phil Pressey or Ricardo Ratliffe. Or Marcus Denmon. Hey, those guys have our respect. And to be honest with you, they seem to me like they're really good kids. ...But their administration, with the support of whoever, made the decision. And they knew when they made the decision that this was going to be something that could affect the future of the relationship.

Everybody deserves the right to do what is best for them. Everybody deserves that," Self said. "So if Missouri makes a decision that's best for them, hey, I don't have one problem with them making that decision that's best for the University of Missouri. Zero. But it does change the way it was. Bottom line, it changes the way it was."

"They're moving forward. That's their future. Their future is not looking back. Or hanging on to something that was," Self said. "Their future is going forward. And you know what? So is ours."It's nothing negative. It's just business."

"People can get hung up on, 'Well, don't the fans deserve this or that?' You know what? Whose fans?" he said. "I haven't had one KU person, not one, send me an email or a letter or tell me we should play Missouri. Not one. And I've gotten numerous ones that said we should not."

While Self said he appreciated nice letters from Mizzou fans saying they hoped he'd reconsider, he added, "So I'm going to make a decision to try to make Mizzou fans happy? I mean, I'm not doing that. ... I don't see any reason to play anybody to help them. I think the reason you play somebody is to help us."

To me, we've got to beat them to win the league. That game carries league significance. That's what makes that game so important. Playing them once a year? I personally don't feel the significance of it as much," he said. "The other thing is, Kentucky plays Louisville every year. Well, they've always played them every year (out of league). That's all they know.

"So if Wake Forest leaves the ACC, are (North) Carolina and Duke going to feel obligated to still play them? ... Texas and (Texas) A&M, I don't think they're going to play each other. And they're even in the same state.

"Even though we're huge rivals, we're only 2 1/2 hours apart, I mean, it's not like our state is divided. Our state is pro-KU, their state is pro-MU."

"Hey, they're going on to their bigger and better things, but when they chose to do that, that means they're leaving behind Kansas," Self said. "And K-State. And Iowa State, or whoever else. I guarantee you they don't feel any different than I do."

"I would think Missouri should put all of (its) efforts into marketing their new rivals," he said. "I mean, seriously: I would think that Missouri's marketing plan would be to find a way to market their new rivals — as opposed to trying to hang on to an old one."

I'd just like to say, there is no one playing better ball, right now, than Matt Gatens. He just unreal right now.

True.

I like that Wisconsin allows an average of 51 points a game and Iowa has 43 at half time. If Wisconsin wasn't hitting some jumpers the Hawks would be blowing them out.

Gatens with 18, Iowa with 43... at halftime... against Wisconsin. I can't wait until they're scoring like this all the time.

I'm really getting excited about Iowa's future. I'm really thinking they can make the tournament next year.

While I respect them, there isn't a team I dislike more than Wisky.

Before the season, and even earlier this year, I thought it would be Dev/Mel/Zachs SR year before they went back. I'm starting to think they have a chance next year. I don't even recognize this team anymore. I was at the Campbell game... I think Fran replaces the whole team since then.

So Iowa's got two cupcakes in a row and then NW for a potential tournament bid to end the season?

If they win this one they could win out. Even if they do though they have 4 bad losses that has to keep them out. I'm just enjoying this for what it is.
