Obviously I have a biased for IU, so I guess I'll just say that upfront. But, the ESPN story doesn't seem to indicate any wrongdoing on the part of IU or Crean in this instance (though it's implied). Certainly they've developed a connection with Indiana Elite, but that's not any sort of violation. The notion that IU received eight commits from players associated with AHOPE and/or Elite is a little misleading as well. Zeller's recruitment/commitment doesn't seem stem from that relationship. Hollowell didn't play for Elite before he committed, nor did Patterson (and he didn't last long with them even afterward). You can see a list of AHOPE players and where they ended up here. Not exactly a pipeline to IU in the past.

Really the only concern seems to be the gifts to Parea from Adams. I guess it depends on if he's his legal guardian. I definitely agree that is a little shady, though it may not be a violation.

I think it's unfortunate the way these summer programs so often act as funnels for certain schools (despite IU's recent benefit from such a relationship) across college hoops. This stuff obviously dates back to the 80's or 90's with the shoe companies, and it's really unfortunate to see kids used in such a way sometimes. However, it doesn't look like IU/Crean did anything inappropriate by the letter of the NCAA rules here.

Additionally, here's a list of where Indiana Elite kids have gone to school: http://blogs.indystar.com/recruitingcentral/2011/05/26/indiana-elite-ties-to-college-programs/. Indiana obviously did very well in 2012, but, as mentioned, that's a bit misleading as both Patterson and Hollowell only joined IE after verballing to IU. It's also laughable that, say, the Zeller or Ferrell families were steered by anyone outside of their inner circle. (For further light, see http://blogs.indystar.com/recruitingcentral/2011/05/26/more-detailed-look-at-story-on-adams-a-hope-and-indiana/; one IU target/MSU recruit debunking ESPN's claim that Adams/IE "funnel" recruits to IU: http://blogs.indystar.com/recruitingcentral/2011/05/27/father-of-former-indiana-elite-player-said-adams-never-talked-about-iu/)

Finally, the ESPN article has already been corrected, changing the false statement that IU has IE players lined up through 2014 to a vague statement that IU has IE players lined up for the future. If the writer can't even correctly identify common knowledge such as the AAU program of future commits, what makes anyone believe he can correctly identify anything?

Really interesting dude. This is a cool read:

http://www.bu.edu/today/node/12295

cliff notes:

Chambers was a successful salesman at 31 years old in Philly. Ran into an old high school classmate, her friend and her friend's drunk/drugged out husband. Husband thinks PC is hitting on his wife, he stabs him in the neck with a broken bottle and beats him on the ground. PC survives - barely - has a new outlook on life, leaves his job to coach high school basketball and quickly moves up the ladder.

He is a good start for PSU: a young, energetic salesman from Philly. I'm excited to see what he can do.

Well it looks like Purdue has solved their 2012 scholarship situation. Patrick Bade is going to move from the basketball team to the football team (he was recruited as a TE out of high school), so they're back at 13 scholarships for 2012.

Well, at least he'll be on a team where mediocrity is the norm. He'll fit in.

There is a rumor floating around that Capobianco wants to transfer to Evansville but that Crean is blocking him from doing so because Evansville is on IU's future schedule(s). Weird rumor, lol. I can't imagine Tom is scared of facing mighty Bobby C in a couple years when IU will have Zeller/Perea/etc in the paint. :P

The NCAA is not happy with Kentucky. Following a win over Florida in February they held a quick celebration to honor Calipari's 500th win. Problem is, he only has 500 wins if he's credited for the 42 vacated wins. Kentucky thinks they should count towards his record; the NCAA begs to differ.

Four star PG Jalen James (2013) to Illinois. Nice pickup for the Illini.

Jalen James

Hopefully this means more guys start deciding soon. Hamilton, I'm looking at you.

And hopefully that leads to not taking anyone from the terrible '12 class.

I wouldn't mind Marerro. But no one else.

I'd rather Taylor as Parker bait, but I'm not too keen on either.

marrero sounds like a solid mid-major player. don't want him on the illini, if he was smart he would have verballed a long time ago.

we need hamilton, man, we need hamilton. i'm sold on this kid being a monster, and not like his dad was.

I'm not a huge Marrero fan and was glad IU pursued other options. I'd pass if I was Illinois too.

I know his talent isn't the best from a pure basketball stand point, but it sounds likes he has a bit of Sergio/Lucas in him. I think we could use that. I also think if we get Hamilton in the foldm then we will get Parker.

I like him a lot as a good kid and an extremely hard worker, but I totally agree with this. He's just too small to be real successful at the Big 10 level with his skill set, imo. Too bad, because he's a lot of fun to watch. I think he could be very good at a mid-major, though.
