oh snap...

"Obviously, we're dealing with a man who at this particular point of his career is not willing to face the facts that what he's done the last few years, except for a two-month period (last year), is well below major league standards," Hendry said.

"And he seemed to make a continual problem of blaming everyone but himself. (He gave up) 29 hits in his first 11 innings of camp, and I've never had anyone I've dealt with classify that as 'bad luck.' His comments (criticizing pitching coach) Mark Riggins were totally unacceptable. And once again, it's a weakness for someone that doesn't perform well and choose to blame somebody else on the way out."

Seems like an extension of his attitude that he was entitled to a rotation spot without having to earn it.

Good riddance.

He doesn't seem like the type, but if Hendry criticizes ownership on his way out the door this quote will be hilarious.

Quade made decision to let Cashner start. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/cbsports-quade-my-call-to-leave-silva-off-cubs-roster--20110327,0,1458272.story

"I had a conversation with him yesterday and needed to," Quade said. "I was really disappointed when I heard the comments afterwards. First of all, he's dead (blanking) wrong, okay, about my pitching coach. And I've got no (blanking) time for that.
\

"Second of all, respect.. it's a two-way street, period. And whether it's him or anybody else on my club, or myself, I mean, it's a two-way street, and I don't want to hear anything about respect. If you're not willing to give it. you aint getting it. OK? I was really upset when I heard that.

"The third thing, and people need to know, whether he was upset with Riggs or whatever, this was my call. This was not Jim Hendry's (call). If you want to irritated with somebody, this is on me. (it was) my decision, completely and totally. And i don't need anybody covering (for me).

Count me in on the Quade fan club. =D>

Gotta admit Q-Ball has made me a fan this off season.

I just developed new respect for Quade. Way to not take any crap and stand by your choice.

Silva is such a baby. Props to Hendry for calling him out also.

This response was good to see. This team has a long history of carrying crappy overpaid veteran players for far to long. If they'd learn to quit signing them to long term contracts to begin with then maybe the circle of learning would be complete. Id much rather see them play players with the potential to be good instead of players whose obvious ceiling is mediocrity.

I officially love Mike Quade. The 2011 Cubs may not make the playoffs, but it won't be because of stupid management decisions.

It is amazing that most of us are a little surprised that Quade did this. Even considering Silva is due $11 million, this is a decision that good organizations make quite easily. Hopefully Hendry learned his lesson and will stop giving away stupid contracts (like Bradley) that result in this mess.

To be fair, I don't think the Milton Bradley contract was that bad. He gave 3 yrs 30 mil to a guy coming off a .321/.436/.563 season who hit a combined .295/.391/.488/.879 the previous six seasons that was only 30 years old. It was a gamble on a guy with his character faults, yes, but had Bradley actually performed the way one would expect him to his character faults probably would never have been an issue. Soriano's contract was a bad contract. Grabow's contract was a bad contract. Bradley's has turned out to be bad in retrospect but hindsight is always 20/20.

I'd much rather give out a relatively small contract to a bad apple than giving out a ridiculously long and expensive one to a good apple who is no more than average.
