That sounds good enough for me. We need a guy who can make good things happen just be being in attendance.

Seriously, he never projected as more than a backup infielder and we're better off with a Baker/DeWitt platoon, no matter what the spring stats say.

FWIW, Barney did hit better against righties(.713 OPS vs. .670) than lefties last year in AAA. Maybe a weird platoon of him and Baker is what they do have in mind.

Maybe Rudy Jaramillo's magic beans made him good.

I get the feeling that our 2B situation will be the baseball equivelant of Bill Wennington/Will Purdue/Luc Longly

all useful big men. was Perdue and Longley ever on the same team?

If I recall correctly they signed Longley then immediately traded Perdue for Rodman.

They were all on the same team in the 94/95 season after the Bulls traded for Longley.

Unfortunately we don't have Jordan/Pippen/Rodman manning the outfield.

No but getting above average production from catcher and short stop makes a situation easier to handle.

they're legumes

I'll give you my telescope for them...

Kudos for the Office reference.

The best part of that episode was Jim wheeling out the larger/grown plants after Dwight left. I fear the show will change with Carrell (sp?) leaving but it still makes me laugh.

It was only slightly funny until he wheeled the large plants out. then...hilarious. Anyone else read "One Red Paperclip"? That's the book Dwight's plan was based on.

Darwin Barney has officially been named the primary 2B.

Link? I don't think it's a terrible move by Quade. With Dewitt's terrible spring (and not really producing much in MLB the last few years) and Baker's history of struggling against RHP, we might as well see what Barney can do. Baker better be starting every single game against LHP still.

As usual, per rotoworld:

Darwin Barney has won the second base job for the Cubs.

Blake DeWitt struggled all spring and has gotten reps at third base so he can back up both spots. Barney, 25, has a .286/.334/.374 batting line over parts of four seasons in the minor leagues, mostly as a shortstop. The former 2007 fourth-round pick has a little bit of speed, but doesn't offer much from a fantasy perspective. He profiles similarly to Ryan Theriot.

It's worth noting that their source, Carrie Muskat's twitter, merely says he is starting tomorrow, although I think that is fairly telling.
