look at ramirez, motioning for the ball to come to him instead of showing some hustle and getting after it.

The pic of Aramis makes him look like he isn't directly in front of the ball like a third basemen should be, but we know it must be the camera angle because Aramis always gets in front of the ball

Still love you A Ram!!! Keep working on the defense

Hilariously enough, there's a pic of Aramis bunting in the cage today on the Herald site. Someone should forward it to Kaplan.

I did.

I think it's becoming clear these two are going to be attached at the hip.

Must be a Texas thing.

Hopefully they aren't too attached during games. Kerry should be watching from the bullpen, while Cashner watches from the dugout 4 out of 5 games.

Agreed. But I definitely don't mind Wood being a positive influence on Cashner.

you heard it here first...positive influences on young players are good. you may be on to the next moneyball.

fantastic job trolling @thekapman, kudos.

i also like how he tweets that his flight is going to take off soon so he has to turn off his phone, like people are just anxiously awaiting what he has to say next.

Are you really a Cub fan? or do you just follow them once in a while? Are you telling me that ARam has never been criticized for his defense? or that Ron Santo and Bob Brenley have never mentioned it on the air?

About the only thing missing was his usually sparkling batting average. He does get criticized about his lack of hustle offensively and his nonchalant approach defensively, but there's simply no denying that he's been an offensive force for the Cubs

On defense, his range factor of 2.29 is not great, thus setting himself up for a label of poor defender, though he has improved greatly, I wouldn't put him in a Santo or Brooks Robinson catagory, let alone Evan Langoria but none the less the label is there.

Range factor is simply a measure of the number of chances that player receives per nine innings. It is heavily influenced by a number of factors, including the makeup of the pitching staff.

Ramirez plays for a team that has had a historic number of strikeout pitchers the past ten years. Even when the ball was put into play, there have been several fly ball pitchers on the team. That also reduces the number of chances for the infielders. In short, RF is measuring the pitching staff as much as the range of the infielders for the Cubs.

There are many better metrics to look at. All defensive metrics have their shortcomings, but any of the advanced or recent metrics will be better than Range Factor.

thank you, what would you rate as the most comprehensive of metrics? and which one for this particular case
